County Board Updates

The next Down Ladies County Board Meeting will take place on Monday 13th February at 8pm in the Thierafurth Inn, Kilcoo. Please encourage your ladies' representatives to attend.

Down Senior Ladies County Team

The ladies have played several challenge games over the past few weeks in preparation for their league campaign which kicks off this Sunday 29th January, with a home game to Meath. The game will take place in Ballykinlar GAC pitch at 2pm. We would like to wish Ryan and Ronan all the best in this campaign, please get out to show your support for the ladies. Lauren Cunningham from Ballymartin was appointed the Captain and Orla Boyle from Downpatrick RGU was appointed the Vice-Captain. Best of luck to both girls in leading the squad for the season ahead. #MourneLadiesRising

Down Minor Ladies County Team

Marty Brown and his team have completed their second week of trials with the squad, the trials will continue this Sunday 29th January 12noon at St Colman's School, Newry. Please encourage any girl born in 1999 or 2000 to attend, please note that the girls need to attend two sessions out of four to be considered for the panel so if they have not yet been to the trials they need to attend on the 29th .

Down U16 Ladies County Team / U15 Ladies Development Team

The U15 Development team and U16 Championship team played Monaghan at Clones on Sunday past. The U15's had 23 girls who put in 100% effort in their first outing of the season, which proved an entertaining challenge match. Good to see and bodes well for the next few months. Training continues Sunday 29th January, venue and times to be confirmed via email and social media.

Down U14 Ladies County Team / U13 Ladies County Development Team

The Down U13 Development squad and U14 squad continued their preparation for the Ulster championship with Saturday training sessions in the Abbey Grammar School in Newry. Both squads had large turnouts on Saturday past and are working hard to gel the various players who represent 18 clubs from across the county. Next week training will continue in advance of challenge matches arranged with Armagh for Saturday 4th February. This will allow the mentors the opportunity to try out players in various positions and also to work on tactics and fitness. A number of sponsors have been secured already and it is hoped to provide all the Down underage squads with team gear in advance of the start of the championship

Courses/Events

The Referee Level 2 refresher seminar will be held in the Thierafurth Inn, Kilcoo on Wednesday 22nd February at 7:30pm sharp. The seminar will give an overview of the rules and allow for discussion on any issues that are of concern to referees. There will be an update on any rule changes and the night will finish with an examination. All existing ladies' referees are asked to attend. Note also that this course acts as a conversion course for any referee interested in officiating the ladies game in 2017.

We had a very well attended Fundamentals course on Saturday 21st Jan 2017. Many thanks to Saval GAC, for the use of their facilities and to the Milestone, Rathfriland for their catering.
