Monan seeks improvement

Down hurling manager Gerard Monan
Down manager Ger Monan conceded that his team will need to improve for next weekend's Christy Ring Cup quarter-final, despite easing to a nine-point win over Armagh at Crossmaglen.

"We were fairly pleased with the start we made," Monan said in the Irish News.

"Against Kerry (in the first round) we didn't start that well and today I think we started better. I think there is a few aspects we need to brush up on.

"We didn't dominate the breaking ball as much as we would have liked, but we won a lot of dirty ball which was pleasing. That was a good performance. We probably played better against Kerry and got beat. We need to up the performance to progress in the next round."
