Clonduff GAA Club Notes

All Clonduff Tournaments have been sanctioned and the dates are as follows:

MIND THE BANK!
Over the winter months The Club has invested in a planting program for the banks around our new Pitch. Hundreds of new Dogwood plants are now in place which will provide a highly attractive and colourful feature within Clonduff Park as well as help stabilise the earthbanks.
It is very important that these young plants are not disturbed during this period and we would ask that everyone takes care not to enter the planted areas as the plants are very easily damaged at this stage of their growth.
Would all parents and Mentors/Coaches please remind children and adults, players and visitors not to enter these areas so that the plants can be protected and in the near future we can all enjoy a really special feature of our continually developing 1st Class facilities.

Handball
Clonduff Girls Handball U14 Feile Team made history last week as they were the first group of girls ever to represent Clonduff in the Feile. They acquitted themselves very well and were runners up to an experienced Downpatrick side. It was held in Clonduff Handball Court on Wednesday 8th May. The girls only started playing Handball before Christmas 2012. The team was: Clara Cowan, Erin Rafferty, Molly Brown and Jenna Boden and were presented with their medal by Feile Committee member Michael Keenan who gave the girls a great commendation.
Clonduff sent two Boys' Teams to Saval also on Wednesday night to compete in the Down U-14 Feile Handball Competitions.
Team 1 - Tom Close, Charlie Kerr, Patrick Cowan and Shay Fitzpatrick
Team 2 - Darragh Fitzpatrick, Conor Milligan, Shane Close and Rory McKernan.
Both teams played their hearts out and were very unfortunate not to have any winners on the night.
Team 1 were beaten by Downpatrick but came back strongly to beat Saval
Team 2 got to their Final and beat Warrenpoint 15/7 in game 1 but were beaten 15/4 in game 2 to lose narrowly on aggregate scores.
Tom Close came very close to winning the skills competition - 37/42. Hard luck, Tom.
Clonduff were the youngest teams on the night and have to be in with great chances of winning next time. Well done lads!

SFL Clonduff had two games in four days both with very different outcomes. On Thursday 9th May the were in Kilcoo and were on the wrong side of 2-12 to 0-6 drubbing. SD U12FL - Clonduff v Burren - Team A had a great win 2-7 to 1-4. Playing with the wind in the first half Clonduff played great long passing football that put the Burren backs under pressure and they went in at the break leading by 5 points. An even better display against the wind was seen as Clonduff coped well and played as a team. Again some great long range point scoring and a strong back line saw the boys gain victory.
Team B also played some great football with the wind in the first half and they also had the lead at halftime. Burren came back strongly and even despite some very solid defensive play by the Yellas, the visitors came out winners by 4 points. Well done to everyone!
Camogie
The Senior Camogs got their belated season under way during with week with two games - home to Liatroim and away to Portaferry. Despite being depleted though injury, holidays and exams, the girls played some good Camogie but found the going tough and were defeated in both.
Hurling
Clonduff Senior Hurlers Take a Heavy Defeat - Ballygalget v Clonduff
Following on from the high of their first win in the Senior League last week, the Senior Hurlers got a sharp reminder of the realities of Division One Hurling. Going to the Ards and missing 5 players through injuries was always going to be a struggle.
Next up is Kilclief at home on Monday 13th May at 7:30. In the meantime, we wish Ryan Brannigan and Sean Downey all the best with the trials for the Down U21 team on Thursday.
Team: Ryan McShane, Shane Quinn, Christopher Brown, Jamie Lowry, Rory Mathews, Pauidi Mathews, Sean Downey, Ciarán Smith, Danny Nugent, Jamie Lynch, Shane Murray, Rián Branagan, Laurence Murphy, John Murphy, Christopher Young; Sub Used: Mark Downey
