The New York team that suffered a heavy defeat to Leitrim in the first round of the Connacht SFC last weekend featured two Down men.

Ballymartin's Gavin Joyce and Mickey Annett from Mayobridge lined out in goal and at right corner forward respectively in Gaelic Park. Newry Mitchel's Darragh Dobbin was also on the panel.

Speaking to the Mourne Observer, Joyce - who plays with the Cavan club in the Big Apple - admitted that he hopes to return to play for his native Ballymartin at some stage in the future.

"I do miss the Ballymartin club. I do love playing for Cavan out here, but playing with your club, with the lads you grew up with all your life, you do miss it," he said.

"At the minute, I'm happy where I'm at but you do miss home now and again and I have no doubt at some time in the near future I will be back to pull on a Ballymartin jersey." Tweet
