Speculation is mounting that former Down minor star Shay McCartan will resume his GAA career after leaving Football League Championship side Burnley.

McCartan joined Burnley on a two-year scholarship in 2010, but had been on loan at non-league side Hyde before returning to the Mourne County in recent days.

Before embarking on a soccer career, McCartan helped St. Colman's, Newry to a Hogan Cup success in 2010. Later that year, he scored a hat-trick of goals for Down against Armagh in the Ulster MFC, but still ended up on the losing side. Tweet
