Glasdrumman GAC Notes
May 06, 2013
Bailghleas under 12s had a tough first league game away to the Longstone on Sunday morning. With a strong wind in their favour Bailghleas got of to a good start and within the first 5 minutes they were 2 goals up. They built on this lead with some fine passing and moving of the ball and with the help of outstanding goalkeeping went into the break with a scoreline of 2 goals and 3 points to 1 point. Its true what they say however, football is a game of two halfs and this was proven when Longstone made the most of the wind advantage and within the first 10 minutes of the second half starting they were level. Despite Bailghleas pressing hard nothing seemed to go their way and they ended up losing the game by 5 points. This was a great game of competitive football played in good spirit. Training for under 12s continues tonight (wednesday) at the quarter road pitch from 6.45 to 7.45.
A great nights craic was had by many of the Club's supporters in the Clubrooms on Friday night past at the Quiz. Despite answers like St.David of Assisi a great depth and breadth of knowledge was shown . Club Chairman John Brennan thanked all who attended and provided the Half time refreshments and prizes . Looking forward to many more great nights in the year ahead
Glasdrumman's U8's and U6's played host to Attical on Sunday last at St Mary's Park. This was the U8's second outing of the season, but for the U6's, this was the first and it gave them a chance to see what they could do after their training up to now. Up first was the U8's and both teams found the cross-field wind difficult to master, all the same, both teams showed great commitment but the scores were limited in this one. Peter Doran took up his customary position in goals, with Cáolam Smith, Nathan Brennan and Sé Rooney in defence. Mid-field saw the pairing of Jack McVeigh and Ollie Thompson, while in the forward line we had Eoghan Travers, Niall McCartan and the very impressive Aoife McComb.
Game two saw the turn of the U6's and a very entertaining game it turned out to be with football thrown from end to end and some well taken scores into the bargain. Well done to both teams. Glasdrumman team was: Blake Killen, Damien and Xavier Rooney, Connor McClelland, Daire Stevenson, George Thompson, Thomas and Amy Tiernan, Shea Daly, Ryan McCartan, Aidan Daly, Ríagan O Hare, Callum Travers and newcomer Alle McComb.
The U8's finished off proceedings again and this time both teams showed what they could really do and put on an excellent game of football with courage and skill. Young Eoghan Travers showed some great finishing skill with two well taken goals with left and right foot. Cáolam Smith then got in on the act with a cracking goal, giving Attical keeper no chance. Attical were not to be outdone and replied with some well taken goals. Niall McCartan for Glasdrumman bagged a brace of goals himself, with his second goal, a great bit of opportunism. The Attical keepers' attempted clearance, went straight to young Niall, who showed a "bit of class" when he cooly lobbed the ball back over the stranded keepers head and into the empty net. A goal out of the "Old Fellows Book" (Gerard). Well done again to both sets of players who showed great skill and discipline which did their clubs and mentors proud on the day. Looking forward to the return fixture. A Big Happy 40th to Nanny McPhee (Bronagh) from everyone lol. There will be no training this Sunday. U10's will travel to An Riocht on Monday 13th.
