'Bridge pipped in Ulster U21 decider

March 02, 2012
There was heartbreak for Mayobridge when they lost last Sunday's Ulster U21 club football final to Omagh, St. Enda's at Creggan by a point, 2-7 to 1-11.

The Down men were left to rue a number of missed chances, while the absence of midfielder Keith Quinn - who suffered a leg injury in the semi-final win over Dungiven - was another blow to their hopes.

Conal Poland's early goal got Mayobridge off to a flying start, but their Tyrone opponents battled back to take the lead and the Sky Blues needed late points from Conleth O'Hare and Poland to go into the break on level terms, 1-4 apiece.

Caolan Gallagher scored a second Mayobridge goal in the third quarter to put them in the driving seat and they held a slender 2-7 to 1-9 lead with 10 minutes remaining.

However, a brace of late points from Ronan O'Neill gave Omagh the win.
