Mr Malachy Glavin

Mr Malachy Glavin of Main Street, Dundrum who died suddenly on 13 October was a devoted family man. He was 75.

A retired shop manager who worked in P. E. Neesons in Dromore where he was locally known as Jim, Mr Glavin is survived by his wife Renee, daughter Fiona Carr, son-in-law Joe and grandchildren Caithriona, Damian and cushla (Castlewellan), son Martin, daughter-in-law Michelle and grandchildren Natasha, Kyle and James (dundrum), son Martin, daughter-in-law Michelle and grandchildren Natasha, Kyle and James (Dundrum), son Gareth, daughter-in-law Patricia and grandchildren Jude and Grace (Dundrum), also brother Rev Fr Finbarr Glavin (Ballykilbeg).

Mr Glavin was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grand-father. Malachy's life revolved around his family and likewise his family were dedicated to him.

In his youth he was a keen footballer, playing for Dundrum GAC and in later years a proud Down and Dundrum supporter. He also enjoyed playing snooker, golf and table-tennis and watching all other sports.

He played bowls, both indoor and outdoor, and was a founding member of St Michael's Bowling Club, Dundrum. He also played bowls for the South Down Zone and he and his wife Renee spent many nights attending other bowling tournaments throughout Northern Ireland.

He was a keen gardener and spent many happy hours digging and planting in his large garden, growing all his own vegetables, fruit and flowers.

In latter years he and Renee started taking holidays abroad, enjoying time together in Tunisia, Madeira and Portugal, as well as a number of European city breaks.
The funeral took place to Sacred Heart Church, Dundrum with interment in Aughlisnafin Cemetery of the Immaculate Conception. Rev Fr Finbarr Glavin, Fr Gerry Patton and Canon Hugh Starkey officiated.
