The Kingdom Camogie Academy Autumn Programme gets underway this week, session times above; it’s great to see 8 of the victorious Minor Championship team, 10 of the Junior team (Championship finalists) and 9 of the Senior team (Championship semi-finalists) all coming forward to give an hour a week coaching our youngest camogs. We will still need help each night to increase the ratio of coaches to players, so each player gets more “one to one” with a coach, so anyone else willing to get involved, call out and get stuck in. It may be a chance for you to experience a different age group than the one you are usually with or help the Head Coach work on weaknesses you know exist within the same group. It may be an opportunity for someone to dip their toe into coaching and discover if it’s for them without making a long-term commitment; if everyone buys in, it can make a huge difference going forward. The Head Coach will be responsible for planning age appropriate sessions concentrating on the basics; what we need are willing Coach Assistants to help him deliver the sessions. We also have ‘Guest Coaches’ from outside An Riocht who cannot commit to the whole 8 weeks but have promised a few nights during October and November and we’ll be looking more of these. As the 8 weeks progress we will focus on the development of technical skills & incorporate lifestyle, diet & nutritional advice for young players in line with the Camogie Long-Term Player Pathway. Parents, children will be receiving Codes of Conduct at the first session of each age group which we ask you to read and sign along with your child before returning.

The Ladies of Mourne autumn programme at Dunavil began with a slide show and talk by the Geriatric Traveller Maura Grant.

Ethan Finnegan, Luke Rafferty, Luke Quinn, Daegan Cordell and Shea Rafferty enjoyed the u12 Croke Park Activity Day on Saturday, playing on the famous pitch and going on a GAA museum tour.

The Night at the Races was an enjoyable success, thanks to the Race and Horse sponsors, those who helped before and on the night, those who attended and those who cleaned up the next morning.

In the first u13 Gaelic match between An Riocht and Shamrocks, the Newry boys won 6-8 to 4-6. We played with the breeze in the first half but weren’t far enough in front by the break and were caught by the finish. Still it was a decent start, and hopefully these boys can enjoy some on field success after a difficult u14 season. Team:  G Gricus, M Shiels, J McDonald, C Kelly, O McAleenan, T Shepcar, Z Curran, L Quinn, D McAlinden , D Cordell, C Gribben, L Rafferty, C McConville, O Davies, J White. Subs: E Finnegan, S Rafferty.

Home Bingo Week 8 (Green) £200 Jackpot winner was Mark Barry; Week 9 (Red) Bingo on sale now.

An Riocht Annual Awards Night will take place on Saturday 17th November in the Balmoral Hotel.

Young People can no longer be left off at the club at night when there is no activity arranged for them. The youth work staff and volunteers can only cater with the organised activities. If there is an activity any young person wants to happen, all they need do is tell a youth support worker & we will do our best to make it happen. Also at the end of activities, parents must collect the young people inside the club; it is too dark and there is too much traffic in the car park for young people to be running about outside late at night waiting on lifts which are late.

The u8 camogs travelled to Bredagh on saturday for a great day of camogie. We had 5 games, first up was Darragh Cross who defeated An Riocht 3-0. The girls came in and regrouped and went back out to play Bredagh ‘B’ with An Riocht girls winning 7-0, then on to Portaferry for a tight game but again the An Riocht girls fought hard and came away winning 3-0, then they played Bredagh ‘A’ winning 3-0 and finally they played Castlewellan and won 2-0. The girls played almost one game after another with a small break in between and still stayed on top form working hard from start to finish. A few changes after the first game made all the difference. We had a strong midfield with Grace Hughes, Orlaigh Small and Ciara Fearron working well together. Ciara held back supporting the backs driving the balls back up the field with her powerful swing, Orlaigh played her best day of camogie this year like a wee terrier she was on every ball and never quit, and Grace played really well reading the game and moving forward when needed with a lovely goal against Breadagh ‘A’. We had Ellie Cousins and Kalyeigh Donaghy in forwards, working together the two girls scored some great goals. In defence we had Annie Cordell, Aoife Mc Geough and Siofra Cahill who all worked really hard clearing the balls and applying some serious pressure on their opposing forwards. Siofra, Ellie and Aoife rotated in goals with Annie moving up to forwards for 2 of the games where she also scored goals. These girls were a pleasure to watch today, well behaved, great sportsmanship and total commitment from they got off the bus to the final whistle. Well Done!!

The Juvenile (u6, u8, u10 & u12) Camogie Awards will take place at Dunavil on Sunday 28th October 3pm to 5pm.
