Glasdrumman club notes

November 27, 2017

The Late great Dean Martin made a recording of a song called " Memories are made of this "  After the rescheduled South  Down na nÓg  Finals  on Sunday in St.Mark's, many of the very talented young people will certainly have memories they'll treasure for life.   The quality, standard and , ( dare I say it )  the professionalism of each  and every competitor whether solo or in a groups, showed the resilience , camaraderie,  determination  and  character of the young Scór family at its best  at a very trying  time for all concerned.

Glasdrumman are  blessed with a very talented, committed, hardworking and versatile young people. Aoife Grant, Aoife Leckey, Cara Sloan, Ciara Rooney ,Clodagh Morgan, Dana Leckey,  Niamh McDowell, Peter Doran and Tara Grant  proved that hard work , rehearsals and willingness to learn  can create great music and great results.  Glasdrumman are now the South Down Scór na nÓg champions in  two categories :Ballad Group and Instrumental. We now move forward to the County  Final in St.Malachy's Castlewellan on Sunday 3rd December  at 4.00 p.m.  The  Glasdrumman  support in the hall  was very vocal and  ecstatic once the results were  read out.  These put the icing on the cake for  the very busy  young people, their parents, mentors, supporters  and  provided a morale boost our Club.  Our All Ireland Champion Niamh McDowell kept the hall enthralled with her  performance of  " The Bright Blue Rose "  whilst the results were being collated.   A good night also for our  neighbours Longstone   who received the " Cathal Sands  memorial cup "  for most improved  club in Scór 2018. Maith Sibh  Gó Léir.  We wish all our fellow competitors from South Down well in the County final . It was also very gratifying to see the friendship between our Club and Mayobridge when the  cheers went up for Eimear Magee  and the number of people from our club who went over to wish her well in the Final.  Our thanks to all from other clubs who came pover and wished us well in thee County Final . The true joy and spirit of Scór were very evident on Sunday in St.Mark's.

Another round  week of rehearsals  will be  arranged for this week.  Due to the success of both the Ballad and Instrumental  Groups in reaching the County Final, The Club's Annual Bazaar has been  rescehduled for Fridayevening the 8th December time to be confirmed.   Donna , Joanne and myself  are so proud and humbled  to have the privilege of working with such a great group of young people. Glasdromáin Abú.

A busy week as well for Niamh McDowell and Connaire Harrison away from the Scór and football.   Both were presented with awards at the Down Supporters Club  night on Thursday in the Canal Court in Newry .     Then on Friday night their respective achievements on the playing field for our County for Connaire and on the stage for the All Ireland  Scór na nÓg  for    Niamh were recognised at he South Down Boards awards ceremony in the Whistledown in Warrenpoint.    For a small Club we cast a big shadow !!!!!!.
