The Late Danny Bannigan The sudden death of Danny Bannigan, which took place peacefully at his home in Woodlawn, Stranorlar, on Tuesday 1st of April with his family around him, has revoked deep regret over a wide area. A native of Ballyshannon, Danny started his working life with the old Co. Donegal Railways and afterwards went on to work with C.I.E. where he remained for 46 years until his retirement. Having started out as a bus Conductor, he was promoted to Inspector and through his work Danny, became known all over Donegal, especially in the School Transport System where he was known by generations of schoolchildren. Danny was a well liked and respected member of the communitiesin Ballyshannon, Liford and Twin Towns. An all round sports fan, Danny, was big into Gaelic football and was instrumental in the purchase in the Lifford GAA pitch. He also attended All Ireland GAA finals and rarely missed a county or MacCumhaills match. Danny was also a founding member of Lifford Credit Union and in later years he enjoyed playing cards and bingo. A man of great faith he was a familiar figure at St. Mary's Church, Stranorlar where he was also a collector. Known in the community as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, Danny will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. The huge attendance at the wake, funeral and Requiem Mass included representitives from all walks of life throughout the country. The Requiem Mass in St. Marys Church, Stranorlar was celebrated by P.P., Fr. Kieran McAteer. Readings were given by niece Linda Foxand grandson Andrew O'Neill. Gifts were carried by grandchildren Haun, Paul and Laura Bannigan and Katie O'Neill. Music and singing were by Cathy O'Hara. After Mass burial took place in Drumboe Cemetery, where Fr. Ciaran Harkin C.C., officiated. Danny is survived by his wife Kathleen; daughters Margaret, Joan, Catherine and son Danny; daughter-in-law Anne; sons-in-law Bernard, Andy and Mike; twelve grandchildren; brothers Owen, Noel and Tommy; siters Mary, Angela and Margaret; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends to whom sympathy is extended.
