McKenna, Charlie

April 03, 2008
The deeply regretted death of Charlie McKenna (formerly Glenmore Ballybofey) which took place recently in Merryhill, Glasgow, came as a shock to his many relatives and friends in both locations. Before emigrating to Glasgow, where he worked in the building trade until retirement due to ill health, Charlie worked for a time with the Forestry Commission, here at home and was a well known and respected member of the local community. He visited home on a regular basis but due to ill health, his last visit was in May 2007 when he and his wife Mary Ann, and other family members spent a holiday in Corraine, Ballybofey. In his early years Charlie was a talented Gaelic footballer. He played for Glenfinn, where heh excelled in the centre half forward position. He was held in high regard by all who knew him here at home and in Merryhill, which was clearly reflected in the large and representative attendance at his wake, funeral and Requiem Mass. After Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Maryhill, Glasgow, Charlie was laid to rest in Maryhill Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann (formerly Magee of Ballykerrigan, Glenfinn); sons Michael and Gerard; daughters Mollie, Ann and Kathleen; brothers John - Manchester, Tom - Paisley, Gerard-Glenmore; sister; Mary Friel - Cappry, Ballybofey; sons-in-law, daughter in-law; grandchildren, two great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends at home and abroad to whom sympathy is extended. - Courtesy of The Donegal Democrat 3rd April 2008
