Kennedy, Jackie

January 17, 2008
The Late Jackie Kennedy The town of Castlefin and the wider surrounding area was plunged into a deep sense of shock and sadness at the news of the sudden and untimely death of Jackie Kennedy of Grahamsland, Castlefin. Jackie was very well known in the locality and was a very highly respected and a popular member of the the community. Jackie was a keen sports enthusiast and was a lifelong supporter of the GAA at both Club and County level. Having played on a successful club minor team of the mid fifties Jackie's playing career was cut short due to a leg injury but still retained a very keen interest in the club and was a loyal and valued supporter until his death. Jack and May were regular attendees of all club functions especially presentations and dinner dances. Jackie was also one of our first Lotto/Membership subscribers, was a regular club sponsor and also a member of Club Donegal. Having been the contractor involved in the building of our Clubrooms at Pairc Eimeid, Jack retained a keen interest in them and his advice, interest and knowledge was a great source of confidence and support to the club. His friendly face and jovial personality will be sadly missed from Robert Emmetts' functions in the future. Jackie was a dedicated and committed supporter travelling the length and breath of Ireland and indeed outside Ireland in support of his beloved Donegal. Jackie and his loyal crew were no fare weather supporters or big day supporters. They were there for all County games in both good and bad times and it was always nice to meet up at venues all over the Country. It was probably appropriate that Jackie's last words were about Donegal, as he discussed their defeat the previous evening in the McKenna Cup game. When asked how much Donegal lost by, his final words on this earth were "Four Points". Great as is the loss to the GAA it cannot compare with the great loss experienced by May and family as Jack was a loyal and loving husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother and to them Robert Emmett's extend our very sincere and heartfelt sympathy. Jackie, we in Robert Emmetts' thank you for your support, loyalty and commitment to the club in your lifetime and we will always cherish the pleasant times spent in your company as you displayed your dedication and commitment to Cumann Luth Chleas Gael.
