Rory Kavanagh doubtful for League final

April 19, 2007
Donegal team-manager Brian McIver rated Rory Kavanagh's chances of making this weekend's final with Mayo as 'very doubtful'. He also ruled out injured forward Leon Thompson, but is confident that Neil McGee who picked up a minor knock last Sunday in the semi-final against Kildare to make the starting line-up. McIver said that he will leave it to the very last possible minute to give the injured duo of former All-Star Brendan Devenney and Paddy McConigley the chance to play a part in this eagerly-awaited league decider between the two form teams in this season's league campaign. As for the game itself, McIver is expecting a very close and exciting contest. When the sides met in the earlier rounds of the league there wasn't very much between them. Both sides have carried on their form, and going on the semi-finals last Sunday there will be very little between them on Sunday. "We are travelling to Croke Park with victory very much on our minds. However, we realise we are coming up against a talented side who like ourselves are hungry for success. It will all boil down to which side plays to their potential on the day, and takes their scores when they come along. "Both sides have very strong forward divisions, and the outcome of the game could depend on how the respective defences could with that situation,'' he concluded.
