Doyle, Gary

Gary Doyle RIP The young man who died tragically in Dublin was laid to eternal rest in Conwall cemetery on the outskirts of Letterkenny. Gary Doyle, from Carnamuggagh Upper, Letterkenny, accidentally slipped from a balcony of the Inchicore apartment he had recently purchased, in the early hours of Sunday morning. He is survived by his father Denis, who recently retired as Bord Failte's regional manager, mother Patty, his only brother Paul, girlfriend Aisling and extended family. At St. Eunan's Cathedral, Gary's immense popularity was reflected by the absolute throngs of people from various generations who made the journey for what was a sombre occasion for his numerous family members and friends. "During his all too brief stay with us, Gary touched the hearts of many with his beaming smile and sheer warmth of personality," recalled Fr. Paddy Dunne at the concelebration. "His radiance was tangible and could be felt by those around him. Gary was one of those people whose make-up was so complete, he was comfortable talking to anyone on any topic with the minimum of fuss. He was well liked by all." The guard of honour in the depths of a cold November day was befittingly provided by many companions who shared their childhood, before growing up in unison, with Gary at the St. Eunan's GAA Club. Players and club officials lined the roadside in a sea of black and amber and made their way to Gary's final resting place. On numerous occasions throughout the years and age-brackets, the senior computer technician employed at Intel in Lexlip, Co. Kildare, wore the number two jersey at O'Donnell Park with pride and honour. Primarily educated at Scoil Cholmcille, in his early teens Gary proceeded to St. Eunan's College, before attending third level in Letterkenny Institute of Technology as a willing student of engineering. An enthusiast of scooters, Gary enjoyed nothing more than assembling and reassembling oily engines, adding his personal touch to things and testing the very machines diligently constructed. He was to he frequently seen assessing their worth on busy roads. Fr. Dunne told those present that they were lucky to have known Gary. He credited his family on his splendid upbringing. Despite passing away in the prime of his youth, these very sentiments were echoed by everyone fortunate enough to make his acquaintance or friendship during his all-too-brief 29 years. Softly spoken and always willing to listen, modest to the point of a fault, Gary Doyle was a role model for many. Memory will ensure that he always will be. AF.
