Donegal chairman Sean Dunnion has condemned the abuse that manager Rory Gallagher has received on social media.

So called supporters have vented their anger to the Donegal manager on social media following their heavy defeat to Galway in the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers last Saturday.

A story broke earlier in the week, that Gallagher's father had received abuse at the game, but he has since spoken out and stated that was not the case.

However, the online abuse is there for all to see and Dunnion told the Donegal Democrat that there was no place in the game for that level of abuse.

"Okay the game might not have gone the way we wanted but there is no place for the personal abuse of Rory Gallagher on social media," said Dunnion.

"Some of the comments that were on a number of anonymous facebook pages were both outrageous and shocking. I was really shocked at some of the personal abuse aimed at the manager.

"It was way over the top and was totally undeserved for someone who has dedicated so much time and effort over the last three years. I would appeal to those posting those comments to stop and take stock.

"We are all disappointed with the result but I would appeal to people to take time out and take stock. I would ask people to digest what happened in the game and to stop posting personal shocking and abusive comments. It's totally unacceptable and has really saddened me."
