Fanad much too strong for Letterkenny Gaels
Gaeil Fhánada 0-16
Letterkenny Gaels 0-8
A strong second half showing from Fanad helped them to a relatively easy victory over Letterkenny Gaels this evening. The game was played in decent conditions, a slight breeze blowing down the pitch benefiting Letterkenny in the first half and Fanad in the second. The men from Letterkenny fielded without Conor McBrearty, Sean McDonagh and goalkeeper Shane Graham, while Fanad lined out without James Gallagher, Oisin Shiels, Jonny Friel and Oisin McFadden.
Fanad started at a blistering pace. Seami Nanny knocked over a free after some indiscipline from the Letterkenny defense before Mark Friel tapped over within 30 seconds to make it a two point game. Fanad absolutely dominated possession and there was six minutes on the clock before Letterkenny breached Fanad's half, a wide from Cormac Cannon being the end result. Fanad then hit their third with a sweet strike from Seami Nanny after a lay off from Michael Sweeney. Letterkenny did respond, Odhran McMacken pointing with the outside of his boot before Shay Doherty opened his account with a close range free. Mark Friel then pointed after a lay off from Sweeney before Letterkenny got a point of their own from Doherty again. Fanad were very wasteful in possession, Niall Carr spurning some ball while Odhran Shiels and Shaun McElwaine also got caught napping in the middle third. Seami Nanny pointed a free only for Doherty to respond for Letterkenny from wide on the left in what was a fine point for the youngster. Cannon then pointed for Letterkenny after getting away from the tight marking Frank Sweeney but Fanad had the last say of the half through a Seami Nanny free after Seami Coshia was fouled.
HT: Gaeil Fhánada 0-6, Letterkenny Gaels 0-4
Fanad would have been disappointed with their wastefulness in the first half but again started the second half at a high intensity. Jimmy Coyle jinked his way through only for his shot to be well saved by James Carr. Seami Coshia opened his account with a well taken point to set Fanad on their way. Truth be told, Fanad dominated the second half and forced Letterkenny into shooting from wild angles against a stiff breeze. Mark Friel defied his age and hit two lovely points in a row, one off his left, to push Fanad's lead out to five with 10 minutes of the second half played. Cannon responded for Letterkenny only for Jimmy Coyle to pop over, only for a Doherty free at the other end to give Letterkenny hope. Sweeney boomed over from 45m and from the resulting kickout he dispossessed Conor Browne, took a quick free to Seami Nanny who arrowed a delightful point over with the outside of his boot. Letterkenny were now being wasteful in possession and Fanad were punishing in clinical fashion. Jimmy Coyle tapped over another score and then Seami Nanny got another after the newly introduced Eoghan Carr was fouled. Another sub, Alan McAteer, swung over a beauty before Seami Coshia landed Fanad's final score of the game after Michael Sweeney dispossessed Kevin Kilkenny. The last two scores of the game belonged to Letterkenny and Doherty after some wasteful play from Fanad.
Fanad will be happy with the win and happy to get back on track. For Letterkenny Gaels, it was another disappointing result and things look worrying even at this stage. Cormac Cannon worked hard inside while Patrick Doherty tried hard but had a tough ask against Shaun McElwaine. Seami Nanny Friel was also impressive for Fanad while Seami Coshia won every ball played into him. The half forward line of McVeigh, Walsh and Mark Friel were also pivotal to Fanad's success.
Fanad now have two weeks off before facing off with Naomh Ultan. Aidan will be delighted with the result while he also fluked seven points from play in the first half of the reserve game.

Under 12s Blitz Final
Unfortunately the A team were narrowly beaten in the County Final by 2 points a against strong Buncrana team. Final score 2:5 to 0:9. The B team won all 3 of their games and topped their group to top of a great day for lads. There were excellent performances on the day from everyone involved. It was a great day out for the young players and shows the future is bright for the Gaels. Well done to all involved.

Milford finish strong to take derby day spoils
Milford 3-12
Gaeil Fhánada 1-11
A strong final quarter from Milford ensured they progressed to the next round of the U21B Championship after overcoming a stubborn Fanad side this evening. Played in perfect conditions on an immaculate surface, both sides played out an entertaining, end-to-end encounter and in the end it was the clinical score taking from the Moyle Park men that earned them the win. Fanad were rocked when their talisman Oisin Shiels had to leave the fray with a hamstring strain after only 10 minutes but did give it their all in the end.
Fanad started brightly, Niall Carr firing over after 30 seconds before a Conor McHugh free tied the game up. The next five minutes were drab, both teams were trying to assert themselves on the game and it was Fanad who had the most possession. The impressive Darragh Black hit a wide in this period while Eoghan Carr blazed wide at the other end. Martin Doyle pushed Milford ahead on seven minutes but Fanad responded with their best period of the game and in impressive fashion. Firstly, Eoghan Carr curled over before Niall Carr repeated the trick with a huge score from 35m after winning a great ball in from Odhran Shiels. Eoghan Carr then hoofed over with his weaker left boot before scoring another beauty, with some help from the crossbar, to put Fanad 0-5 - 0-2 ahead and they now had the wind in their sails. However, Milford stepped up their game for the next 10 minutes to get back in the game. Firstly, Patsy Hudie Friel done well to intercept a Milford kickout but appeared to be fouled as he was in possession, referee Seamus McGonigle awarded a free out and from this attack, Milford fashioned a penalty, Dylan Hegarty hauled down as he was ready to pull the trigger. Adam Serrinha dispatched the penalty leaving Oran Blaney no chance in the Fanad goal. Emmett Conaghan then popped over in an unorthodox fashion while Darragh Black got his first of the day after some slack play from Patrick Carr in the Milford half. This was something Milford clearly worked on as over the hour their counter attacking play was blistering with Black, Ryan McMahon and Kane Barrett in particular proving very hard to handle. Shiels left the fray in between to be replaced by the fiery Matthew Gallagher. Conor McGonigle fired over from distance to give Fanad hope before Serrinha danced through the thin Fanad rearguard to pop over a lovely score. Fanad were finding it difficult to break down an organized Milford defence and Niall Carr was guilty of a poor wide during this interchange. Bernard McGettigan did tap over a free after Eoghan Carr was fouled to leave a point between the sides at half time.
HT: Milford 1-5, Gaeil Fhánada 0-7
Fanad again started strong with Eoghan Carr powering through to level up the game. A Niall Carr free after Patsy Friel was fouled put Fanad ahead only for Milford to reply ruthlessly. A Milford '45 didn't leave the ground but fell to the feet of Serrinha on the Fanad 21. He offloaded to Barrett who still had some work to do and finished emphatically to the bottom corner to propel Milford into a two point lead. Fanad needed a response and it came within two minutes, Fergus Friel putting his neck on the line to take possession of a pass from Bernard McGettigan, Fergus skipped through and offloaded to Matthew Gallagher who bundled home to put Fanad back into the lead again. It was a well worked goal from the three seventeen year olds on the team. Mark McAteer entered the game and did make a difference, getting on a lot of ball. As the game hit 40 minutes, gaps started appearing in the Fanad defense with a lot of scores coming from breaking ball and counter attacks. Black drove over to tie up the game when a goal may have been on for the diminutive forward. Niall Carr then swung over after some fine approach play from Conor McGonigle before what some might see as a huge turning point in the game. Bernard McGettigan done brilliantly to maneuver his way through the Milford defense and found himself 13m from the Milford goal. His effort seemed to skew off his boot and go wide in what was a huge goal chance for the Fanad contingent. Conor McFadden entered the fray on 44 minutes just as Black drove over from 40m after taking a return pass from his own '45. Milford then missed a guilt edge goal chance as Oran Blaney palmed away Dylan Hegarty's powerful effort. Conor McFadden fisted over with 13 minutes remaining to give Fanad a slender lead on a scoreline of 2-7 to 1-11, but this was to be their last score of the game as Milford blitzed them to score 1-5 without reply. They even had the luxury of missing two goal chances before Kane Barrett tied up the game with a huge score from 35m. Black then swung over off his weaker left to put Milford into the lead before disaster struck for Fanad, Hegarty fisting home after near approach play from Conor McHugh and Ronan Docherty. Hegarty then got a lovely point after a delightful ball in from Black to put Milford five points to the good and seven minutes remaining. Martin Doyle and Barrett brought the curtain down on what was an entertaining game for the big crowd in attendance.
Fanad were left annoyed at some inconsistency from referee Seamus McGonigle but overall it didn't really have an affect on the game. A young Fanad side did battle gamely and the loss of Shiels made it a bridge too far for them. Tiernan Cushnan was also not fit enough to start and is a key member of this side. For Fanad, Bernard Martin was his usual brave self and put his head on the line several times, Paddy Carr worked hard in midfield, Eoghan and Niall Carr caused havoc in the first half but were well restricted in the second half as Milford dropped deeper to cover the space in front of the danger men. Fergus Friel, Matthew Gallagher and Bernard McGettigan also did well despite their tender years. For Milford, as stated, Barrett, Black and McMahon were very impressive while the composure of Serrinha and Gavin Grier at crucial periods helped them gain the upper hand.
We would like to wish Milford all the best in the remainder of the competition (said through gritted teeth! :D).
