Naomh Muire v Seán Mac Cumhaill in the Banks

May 12, 2013
Sean Mac Cumhaills went to the Banks in Mullach Dearg and earned two valuable points in Division 2. Darren O'Leary's free taking was the major difference between the teams.

He hit five points from 4 frees and a 45 metre free.
Despite playing with the breeze Naomh Muire could not get into their stride and struggled to find any rhythm to their game. McCools looked the sharper team and even though they were against the wind they pinned Naomh Muire back into their own half. With the strong wind Naomh Muire only got their first point by Paul Boyle after 11 minutes. They then added two more through Aidy O'Gara and Sean J Boyle in the next two minutes. Darren O'Leary then scored three great frees to bring the sides level before Darragh White put the home side in leading by a point at half time. Naomh Muire 0-04, McCools 0-03.

Naomh Muire started the second half better, with Shaun Yank scoring a point after 2 minutes. Séamus McGinty then scored a great point and Benny McLaughlin and Marty O'Reilly from a free, putting McCools ahead. After a period of 5 minutes McCools were awarded a penalty, Darren O'Leary took the spot kick but Seán Gallagher produced a good save to put the ball around the post for a 45 metre free, which O'Leary coolly stroked over the bar. Marty O'Leary then increased the lead to three points. Harry Harden from a free and Ciaran McGinley reduced it to one but O'Leary from a free again gave McCools a 2 point cushion. Ciaran McGinley then pointed a free to leave the minimum between them and Naomh Muire were unable to get an equaliser before referee Connie Doherty blew the final whistle.

Final Score: Naomh Muire 0-08 Seán Mac Cumhaill 0-09
