Dubs in the dark over biting claim

April 10, 2013

Andy Kettle.
Dublin have received no official contact from Donegal over the alleged biting incident in last Sunday's NFL Division 1 encounter at Ballybofey.

Furthermore, Dublin chairman Andy Kettle has cast doubt over claims that star Donegal forward Paddy McBrearty was bitten by a member of Jim Gavin's team during the draw.

It is understood that 20 year old McBrearty underwent blood tests in Letterkenny General on Sunday evening and was put on a course of antibiotics but Kettle is adamant there is nothing to be investigated at the moment.

"First of all, was there an incident?" he commented in the Irish Daily Star.

"It was a hard pitch. Some of our guys had bruises on their bodies as well, but I wouldn't say any of those was as a result of anything happing between them and Donegal players.

"I don't accept that something did happen. Until I am asked officially to investigate by the Donegal county board, I won't be doing anything.

"Yes, our medic did visit the dressing room. My understanding is that he saw a bruise, not a laceration, a bruise.

"I am surprised that Donegal county board have not officially contacted Dublin county board.

"As far as we are concerned, officially, there is nothing to be investigated at the moment."

The Dublin chief added: "I was very surprised that we weren't informed through official channels.

"I have heard on radio that the Dublin management were informed. That is not my understanding.

"There is obviously protocol in the GAA for things to be handled. I don't think that protocol was followed on this occasion.

"Protocol would be county secretary to county secretary or county chairman to county chairman."
