Ferriter, Mary

September 01, 2011
Very deeply regretted also was the recent death of the late Mary Ferriter, which occurred unexpectedly in Dublin.

She was the wife of former Dungloe, Donegal and Ulster footballer, Sean Ferriter, who was based in Dungloe as a Garda in the 1960s. The Ferriters spent a short while in Newtowncunningham 1st before Sean was transferred to Dungloe. They lived in Jim Boyle's bungalow after their arrived and after that, were among the 1st to go into the new Garda homes on the Chapel Road. They had 8 children altogether, including twins, Brian and Morgan. 3 of their family lived in Dungloe, with Marie and Sean being born here. They were married for all of 49 years. The Ferriters were a very popular couple in Dungloe and news of Mary's death was received with great sadness here, where they had many friends, both inside and out of the GAA family and An Garda Siochana. They spent approximately five years in Dungloe altogether and are still fondly remembered here, after leaving Dunglow they went to Letterkenny and eventually to Dublin, where they lived in Blanchardstown. Mary (nee Dooley) was formerly from Thurles Co. Tipp. She was in her early 70s at her death.

She has 1 sister and 3 brothers, all of whom are priests. She was the beloved wife of Sean and dear mother of her 8 children. Removal from Cunningham's Funeral Home in Clonsilla took place to St Brigid's Church, Blanchardstown for the 'reception of the Funeral' service, with her remains reposing overnight. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated there at 10am on Saturday morning, 20th August, with interment taking place in Clonsilla Churchyard immediately afterwards. Dungloe was representing at the obequies, with attendance at her Funeral Mass. Mary will be sadly missed by her loving husband Sean, sons, Sean, Brendan, Maurice, Paul and Morgan, daughters, Marie, Joanne and Claire, sister and brothers, grandchildren, sons-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, including Pearse in Laghey, cousins, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends and neighbours in Dungloe, including all in the GAA and An Garda Siochana, to whom the deepest heartfelt sympathy of the whole community is extended.
