Óige Aodh Ruadh launch

This Friday in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh, we will be launching our Aodh Ruadh Academy, Óige Aodh Ruadh. All underage footballers are invited to attend with their parents / guardians for a short chat about the Academy, and each child can pick up their jersey and O'Neill's football. There are a limited number of each jersey size, so it's important to get up on the night to collect. Another order will go be made later for those who miss out. Prices are €35 for jersey and ball for players from under 6 to under 12, and €40 for jersey and ball for players from under 14 to minor. There will be a free draw for two packages, for those present on the night, one under 6 to under 12, and one under 14 to minor. This draw is kindly sponsored by long time club supporter, KJ Graham in Canada. Parents can also register their child for membership on the night. We would love to see all underage boys attending,  with training up and running in the following weeks.

Hurling

National Hurling Development Coach Martin Fogarty was guest of honour in Ballyshannon over the weekend. On Saturday morning he took over 30 under 14 hurlers in hand for a fantastic training session in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Later in the evening a big crowd assembled in the Aras to listen to Martin speaking after presenting the awards to the juvenile hurlers. He held the audience spellbound with his tales and wisdom and proved to be one of the most inspiring guests we've ever had at our annual underage hurling awards evening. Many thanks to everyone who helped make the whole day such a success. We should have pictures from the event online later in the week.

Ladies

Training continues for senior, minor and under 16 ladies in the Mercy Hall on Monday evenings from 8pm to 9pm. Players are asked to bring €2 to cover the cost of hall hire. Training also continues at Pro Fitness on Friday evenings from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

Under 14s girls training starts on Tuesdays in Rockfield Community Hall from 7pm to 8pm. Girls needs to wear runners, take their own water bottle and €2 to cover cost of hall. All under 14 girls intending to play football this year need to attend every training session. The first league game takes place on 1st March.

Coaching workshop

A workshop for all club coaches tutored by Anthony McGrath will take place this Saturday from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. The first hour of the course takes place in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh and will look at the mental skills required for underage coaching. It will provide an insight into skills that can be applied in coaching sessions to develop culture, confidence and player development. The second hour will take place on the pitch and will look at the art of defending and focus on how to coach defensive skills from age six to 18. This will break down the skills required at senior level and how they are coached at underage level. All coaches in all codes in the club are invited to attend.

Represent the club at Scór

We are looking for people to represent Aodh Ruadh in Scór Sinsir this year. Scór aims to promote Irish culture and tradition in areas such as music and drama and we’re hoping the club will be represented in as many disciplines as possible. It is open to any club member over the age of 17 and the Donegal semi-finals will be held this year on Saturday 8th February in Clonmany Hall and Saturday 15th February in the Bluestack Centre in Drimarone. We are looking for acts to represent the club in Rince Fóirne (Céilí Dancing), Rince Seit (Set Dancing), Amhránaíocht Aonair (Solo Singing), Aithriseoirecht / Scealaíocht (Recitation / Storytelling), Bailéad Ghrúpa (Ballad Group), Ceol Uirlise (Instrumental Group) and Léiriú (Historical Presentation). The deadline for entries is this Wednesday, so if anyone’s interested or has any queries, please contact Eamonn Martin Maguire at [email protected].

Club registration

We ask all club members to submit their registration form and fee at their earliest convenience. To facilitate registration we have an online option on Klubfunder.com available. Click on the link or search for 'Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon' on the Klubfunder.com site. Membership can also be paid to Gerry Ferguson at Ferguson's Jewellers. Players can also download registration forms from aodhruadh.org and submit this along with the relevant fee directly to their manager. It is essential all players are signed up club members. Non members are not covered by the GAA's injury insurance scheme and cannot line out for the club. Adult members will receive first priority for the club's allocation of All-Ireland final tickets in the event of Donegal contesting the decider. Only adult members registered by 31st March may vote at the club AGM.

Last one standing

Our Last One Standing competition sponsored by Liam Gallen Mr Gs got underway this weekend with 414 entrants this year. The dreaded draw proved costly as a lot of entrants had picked Roscommon. Scores by David Clifford and James Durcan ended the hopes of those who picked Dublin and Donegal. RTE's Jaqui Hurley has reason to smile as she picked Galway while Marty Morrissey went out after picking the Dubs. Thanks to all who supported this fund-raiser. Best of luck to the 268 entrants still standing in round two this weekend.

Win a house

We invite our members to support Donegal GAA's house draw. You could win a four bed semi-detached home in Dublin with Club Donegal. With over 134 square metres of living space, this four bed semi-detached home is located in Brownsbarn, adjacent to Citywest. On 9th May one very lucky person will win this brand new house in our capital. Second prize in the draw is a brand new Mazda 2. Tickets, priced €100, are available to buy online now at www.winyourhouseindublin.com.

National and Local Draw

All with tickets for the National Draw are asked to begin returning their stubs. There is a lot of work to be done to enter the returns on the National database so it would be helpful to our club officers if everyone could co-operate on this. Proceeds from this draw are ring fenced to build a new playing surface on Father Tierney Park in 2020. Further tickets are available from any member of the draw committee. For those not living locally who wish to support the Father Tierney Park project, tickets can be purchased on the Aodh Ruadh page on Klubfunder.com.
