Derry's Enda Muldoon has claimed the Ulster Tennent's Merit Award for July. June may not carry all that happy memories for the Ballinderry man or his Derry colleagues but the Oak Leaf boys turned the season around with performances that have landed them into the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final against Dublin. High profile wins over Mayo and Laois were the games that have brought Derry into the last eight with Muldoon playing a pivotal role in those victories. He roved around the attack and midfield to great effect and even scored 1-1 against Mayo. "The whole team played very well in those games and I am lucky to be selected the winner of the Merit Award. I'm delighted, of course, and it gives me a great lift going into Croke Park to face Dublin," says Enda (29). For the award, Enda had to fight off challenges from Tyrone midfielder Sean Cavanagh who starred against Monaghan in the Ulster SFC final; Conor Gormley who was also in fine form in that game; Monaghan's Vincent Corry whose switch from full-back to full-forward during the final transformed the Farney team and Sarah Louise Carr (Clonduff and Down). Camogie scoring machine Carr helped her club to their first Down SC win, has scored heavily with Down at both minor and senior levels. She polished off July with a massive 6-8 against Roscommon in the All-Ireland Minor Championship. For overcoming all opposition, Enda Muldoon, who was also the winner for October 2002 after Ballinderry beat Mayobridge in the Ulster Club final, received a Tennent's Ireland voucher, an engraved Belleek China vase, training gear from Pro*Star Sports and specially designed silver cuff links from Omeath Jeweller Gareth Mallon.
