Doire Trasna Club notes week

The Gaelic for Girls programme continues with training every Monday night at 6.30pm at the pitches.

Underage training will take place on Friday nights at Immaculate Conception College at the following times and venue : 6-7pm primary 1 and primary 2 (Indoor); 7-8pm primary 3 and primary 4 (Indoor); 7-8pm primary 5 and primary 6 (Outdoor). Parents are asked to ensure that their children are togged out in sports gear for the sessions.

In a points only blitz, Doire Trasna had a mixed team in the U10/ P5 and P6 age group at the weekend. This team was made up of 5 boys and 5 girls. Superb defending from Ethan Dorney, with great performances also from Aiden McIntyre and Caoirse Doherty and Orlaith Lyndsay for the girls. Special mentions must also go to debutants - Alayah and Sarah-Louise. This team lost 7-2 to Steelstown 'A' team in the first game, and lost the second game to Steelstown 'B' team on a scoreline of 7-6, however went on to beat Sean Dolans 6-1 in the third game. Well done to all who participated.

The Primary 5 boys had another blitz at the weekend where they beat Doire Colmcille and Steelstown B, and lost one game to Steelstown A. There were good performances all round from the boys, even in the very poor weather conditions.

The U12's Training is Mondays at 7.30pm At ICC gravel pitch and Thursdays at 7.00 - 8.00pm outdoor at ICC.

U14 training is on Monday 7.30pm-8.30pm on the gravel pitch and Thursdays 7.00 - 8.00 pm indoor at 6pm-7pm at ICC. The Under 14`s lost out to Greenlough on Tuesday last (May 7th) on a scoreline of 6.07 to 3.06, but bounced back this week with a resounding victory against Limavady on a scoreline of 7.03 to 0.04. Well done lads!

Under 16 winter training programme has now commenced. Circuit training will take place on Thursdays from 7pm - 8pm at ICC gym hall and outdoor training will take place on the gravel pitch at ICC on Mondays from 8.30pm - 9.30pm. The U16's beat Slaughtmanus on a scoreline of 6.06 to 2.06 last Thursday night. They will now have an away fixture to Sean Dolans this coming Thusday (May 16th) with a 7.15pm throw in time.

Minor training continues on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7.00pm meet at the chapel. Please see coaches for more details. The Minors lost out away to Foreglen on a scoreline of 1.10 to 1.08. Due to the exam season, the Minors will have no matches until May 27th, where they will play Slaughtmanaus at home.

Senior training continues on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7.00 pm at the pitches. The Seniors beat Doire Colmcille on a scoreline of 1.13 to 1.05 last weekend. In terrible weather conditions, Pearses struggled to get to grips with the game in the first half, and only managed to score four points, and went in at the interval with a 4-2 lead, however manager Brian McKenna made a few changes, bringing on Aaron Callaghan, Miceal McNaught and Gary Murray at half time, and in a scoring burst they scored 1.04 in a ten minute spell early in the second half, to run out eventual winners. The scoreline flattered Doire Trasna, and a much better performance this coming Sunday to beat Ardmore away.

All players are asked to bring £1, a water bottle and suitable training gear (raincoat and wet gear) to each training session, and are also reminded to look at the Derry GAA website (www.derrygaa.ie) to see this years forthcoming fixtures

The Pearses Academy is a vital part of the club. The parents and guardians of the children are fundamental to the successful running of the Academy. Each year we invite parents to volunteer to become coaches/helpers in the Academy. No previous experience is required as the club provides resources, training courses and support through its coaching officer Paul Simpson. The next committee meeting will be on Wednesday 22nd May at 8.30pm in the Family Centre, Hillcrest House. All committee members are asked to attend.

The club are looking for volunteers to steward at the Féile Peil na nÓg, which returns to the City at the end of June. If interested, please forward your name on to any member of the committee.

The club would like to congratulate Fergal McNicholl who became the clubs youngest referee at only 18 years of age, after qualifying last weekend. Comhghairdeas agus maith thú Fergal!
