Reserve football: Castledawson travelled to Greysteel on Sunday to play Faughanvale knowing that only a win would keep them in contention for the reserve league. An inspired performance from Dermot Heaney helped our younger lads settle and we controlled the game from start to finish. The result was never in doubt and special mention must go to Neill O'Kane in goals who pulled of some fine stops and kept Faughanvale at arms length. A good performance also from Ryan Hughes, Mark Hughes and the ever young Dermot Heaney eased Castledawson passed the opposition and keeps the pressure on Greenlough at the top of the league. Result Castledawson 0.8 Faughanvale 0.6.
Senior Football: This was always going to be a tricky game, Castledawson well aware that on their day Faughanvale are dangerous. That in mind and the fact that one more win would guarantee a league playoff position our boys started quickly with Barry O'Kane very industrious from the first whistle. St Malachys roared into an early lead and when Barry netted you just knew it was going to be our day. Minutes later Martin Heaney broke through and repeated what Barry had done scoring an absolute screamer. Two goals and cruising the second half saw a flurry from the opposition but with Aidan and Marty pulling the strings the scoring gap never got any closer than 4 points. Strong performances from our two games in 1 day keeper Neill, Chris and Joe in defence, Marty and Aidan around the middle and Barry dangerous up front. We finished the game with a score line of 2.09 to 011. Training continues on Tuesday night at seven, we are now heading towards the last part of the season with places up for grabs. Keep up the good work and good luck in the coming weeks.
Camogie: Our U14 have progressed to the semi final of the championship playing Greenlough on Saturday (4th) in Greenlough. Time is yet to be confirmed but check the web later in week. The best of luck to all Roisin and the girls on this occasion. Please support the young girls.
Hard luck to Clare O'Kane and Katie Mc Ananely after their narrow defeat while playing for Derry in the All Ireland Semi Final. A big disappointment for the girls but as always the club is extremely proud of you both.
