August 09, 2010
Rogers Fencing Systems Ltd is one of the leading companies throughout Ireland that specialise in the design and manufacture of sports fencing, to name just one of the many services that this Derry based firm provide to a large customer base.
The company was initially established by Cathal Rogers in 1978, and from the purpose built premises in Draperstown that they moved into ten years ago, Rogers Fencing Systems Ltd has grown on an annual basis. Supplying a wide range of products connected to the fencing industry, Cathal and his team has striven to stay ahead of their competitors, a situation that their modern designs helps them to do.
The demands of the ever developing fencing industry have resulted in Cathal and his design team manufacturing many products to cater for their large customer base.
Such is the demand for their products that Cathal now employs 40 highly trained employees to ensure that a reliable and efficient service is provided.
The state-of-the-art premises comprises of all the machinery and equipment necessary for the company to offer a turnkey service to their customers.
"We would offer a complete service from the designing of a product, the manufacturing and the installation, the full package basically, which the customers tend to go for," said Cathal.
The latest project that the company is undertaking is the manufacture of commercial sports stands. Constructed in modular form completed with a galvanised roof, the stands have been designed by Rogers Fencing and have been endorsed by Ulster GAA council.
They have met the relevant safety standards and already demand for this product has met with keen interest by many clubs across the 32 counties.
"We designed a system where the stand is constructed on site and can be made bigger or smaller depending on what the club or county board would prefer. They are a tidy operation and have passed all the necessary safety requirements," said Cathal.
"We have spoken to Croke Park about this and have worked closely with them on a number of projects. There has been some interest from clubs and we're hoping that this is another area of the business that can be developed."
Rogers Fencing are currently working on a number of GAA contracts both north and south of the border, while they are also involved in many projects in other sporting codes such as rugby and soccer to just name a couple.
The family run business is continuously working hard to improve their portfolio, despite it being so impressive as it stands and Cathal is delighted that business is going so well and he revealed that the employees have played a massive part in the company's success down through the years.
"My daughter Allana and sons Ryan and Eoghan are involved in the business. Ryan is marketing manager, while Eoghan is contracts manager and Allana looks after the administration side of the business.
"Our projects manager is Enda O'Neill and he deserves great credit for the work that he has done. In fact all the staff are very good and reliable. Some of them have been with us many years now and I feel that stability in the workforce is a very important factor in being successful."
Rogers Fencing Systems not only work in the sporting fields, but the commercial market also, where mainly automatic gates are their field of expertise.
The Derry based firm is now one of the leading Security Fencing companies in Ireland and are successfully breaking into the UK market with their award winning Inova Cantilevered Sliding Gates.
"We have recently completed five sets of security gates for the Olympic village in London, while we also do a lot of work in the same field for the ESB. The gates are our specialised design and we manufacture them here in Draperstown."
Such is the standing of the company that most of their work is attracted through word of mouth and this in itself is a testament of the quality of product manufactured by Cathal and his team.
"Most of the jobs that we get would be through word of mouth. When you are established as long as we are, it helps as our work can be seen at many different grounds across the 32 counties."
Cathal feels that keeping up the level of customer satisfaction that they have being producing over the years is the number one aim, while implementing new designs is always on top of the agenda.
"Our resources allow us to take on any kind of job in this sector and we are happy to talk to anyone about what might best suit their needs. Keeping the customer happy has always been our main priority and that is something that we will hopefully continue to do for many years to come.
"We are always looking at ways to improve the business and our design team are busy coming up with new ideas. The current economic recession means that money is not as ready available as it used to be, so this is why we sit down with the customer beforehand and explain the costs involved."
