WATTY GRAHAMS GAC GLEN NOTES

The Under 14 football team took part in the Stephen Quinn Memorial Cup on Sunday in Swatragh. In the league stages Glen beat Carryduff on a score line of Glen 0-07 Carryduff 0-01. The next game was against Swatragh which ended in a draw, three points each. Kilrea was their next opponents and Glen made no mistake in this game winning by nine points Glen 2-04 Kilrea 0-01. The last game in the league section was against Glenullin and again Glen had an easy victory Glen 4-06 Glenullin 0-02. The four semi finalists were Glen, Carryduff, Ballinascreen and Magherafelt. Carryduff had a victory over Magherafelt which left Ballinascreen standing between Glen and the final. Glen won comfortably on a score line of Glen 3-06 Ballinascreen 0-03, so therefore Glen fielded against Carryduff in the final. This was a tighter game with only three points in it at half time. Glen went on to win the final by five points, Glen 1-07 Carryduff 1-02. Congratulations to the team and management. This is the third year that we have won this tournament. Thanks must go to the Swatragh club and the Quinn Family on running such a great tournament.

Glen took part in the Derry Og Sport competition on Thursday night. We were in the league stages with Faughanvale and Newbridge. Both these game were won at a canter on scorelines of Glen 14-15 Faughanvale 1-03 and Glen 8-20 Newbridge 1-01, considering these games were seven minutes each way the scoring by these players was excellent. This left Glen in the quarter finals, their opponents being the much fancied Bellaghy but Glen totally outplayed them and the standard of seven-a-side football was incredible. They won by fourteen points Glen 2-11 Bellaghy 0-03. Glen then met Greenlough in the semi final winning this one by nine points Glen 5-09 Greenlough 2-06. The final was against Slaughtneil and Glen came out on top, the score line was Glen 2-11 Slaughtneil 3-03. The winning squad consisted of: Cathal Mulholland, Conor McDevitt, Tomas Convery, Stevie O'Hara, Cahir McCabe, Conor Convery, Danny Tallon, Paul Gunning, Cahir Glass and Piaras Flanagan. This means Glen now have the opportunity to defend their Ulster Og sport title. This will be held in Watty Graham Park on 5th September. This should prove to be a great day of football and hopefully the lads will get the same support as they had in Owenbeg on Thursday evening. Well done to all involved.

The senior Camogie girls played Kilrea in the championship semi final in Kilrea. The team lined out minus three players unavailable due to injury and two players on holidays. This young team played with great heart in the first half and went in at half time down by a single point. In the first ten minutes of the second half Kilrea dominated and went seven points up but much to the credit of the Glen girls and the introduction of two of our injured players we narrowed the gap to a single point but Kilrea had a little bit extra on the night and won by points. It is a case of what might have been as we feel had we had our full panel to choose from we would have been contesting the championship final. Final score Glen 3-05 Kilrea 3-09
Team & Scorers Emma Bradley, Hannah Ferguson, Patrice Tohill, Orla McGilligan, Carla Bradley, Danielle McCrystal, Rebecca Ferguson, Clare Campbell, Catherine McCullagh, Aileen McKenna (0-2), Caoimhe Glass, Caroline Kelly, Leanne McCrystal (1-2), Movita Gallagher (2-1) and Shauna O'Kane, Subs used Briege Convery, Caoimhe Moran and Eimear McNicholl.
In the camogie league, Glen defeated Ballerin on a scoreline of 5-04 to 1-12.

The senior football team traveled to Bellaghy on Thursday evening to play Lavey in the championship. Glen started slowly and were finding it difficult to get into the game and found themselves five points down at half time, Glen 0-04 Lavey 0-09. The second half started in a similar fashion and Glen were seven points in arrears within a few minutes. Johnny Bradley who didn't start due to injury was introduced and his presence lifted the Glen lads. Johnny and John McCamley totally dominated midfield from then on right to the finish of the game. Lavey failed to score again and Glen landed seven unanswered points to draw the game. The best of these was a last minute free from near the sideline, Connlan Bradley stepped up and despite serious pressure he sent the ball sailing over the bar to keep Glen's championship challenge on track. This was a very gutsy second half performance by all the Glen players and they showed great character. Good luck in the replay, which will be back in Bellaghy on Thursday night. All support is welcome.

In the Under 16 football Championship, Glen traveled to Newbridge to play Swatragh. This proved to be a easy outing for the team who lead by sixteen points at half time, Glen 3-12 Swatragh 0-02. Nothing much changed in the second half and Glen won comfortably on a score line of Glen 3-19 Swatragh 0-03. Glen will now face Kilrea in the championship semi finals.
