O'Donovan Rossa GAC Magherafelt - Notes

July 26, 2010
The senior footballers return to action this weekend in the championship. The Rossa's will face the Loup in the second game of a double header at Slaughtneil on Sunday afternoon at 3.30pm

The U16s had a fine win over Kilrea in a closely contested league match at Rossa Park. 2 goals from Shane Heavron in the second half assisted the Rossas to a four point victory.

The U14s having narrowly (3-05 to 1-08) defeated Swatragh in the championship within the last fortnight again travelled to Davitt Park, this time for a league encounter. The young Rossas played some fine football in a very entertaining match with both teams battling hard until the end, this time ending in a draw. Final score Rossas 2-10, Swatragh 3-07.

Camogie notes
Seniors reach championship final
The senior camogs are still on track to do the league and championship double after an epic win over Drum. Played in terrible conditions on Wednesday night, the girls were tested to the limit and came out winners. A defensive error allowed Drum to go a goal ahead but the Rossas didnt panic, with Sinead McLaughlin and Kathy McGuckin picking off scores to put Magherafelt ahead midway through the first half. The loss of Sinead due to injury before the break was a massive blow but the girls showed amazing resilience in the second half against the wind and rain, with the defence keeping Drum at bay, while Dervla McGuckin and Caoimhe Toner drove forward tirelessly and linked well with the Rossa attack. The teams were level for much of the second half but the determination of the girls won through in the end with a superb and timely point from Dervla. This was a fantastic performance from the whole team, one which should give them confidence for the final on
Sunday 1st August.
Rossa: A McGuckin, L Johnston, M McCusker, S Comer, G McNicholl, S McCusker, S Devlin, D McGuckin, C Toner, B Corrigan, K McGuckin, J Lee, Niamh McGuckin, S McLaughlin, E O'Donnell. Sub. S Martin for S McLaughlin.
