NHL 3A: McCloskey's goals sink Exiles
February 28, 2010
Derry 5-18
London 0-8
Derry eased to their first win in Division 3A of the National Hurling League this afternoon at Watford, where they saw off a poor London outfit with 25 points to spare.
The Oak Leafers enjoyed the perfect start to what would turn into a one-sided affair, when Mark Craig's long puck was missed by everyone and ended up in the back of the London net six minutes in, which paved the way for the winners to take in a 1-10 to 0-4 lead at the break.
After the restart, corner-forward Paddy McCloskey showed what he's capable of by bagging a nine-minute hat-trick of goals which totally killed of his team's opponents.
Colm Quinn looked to take some of the tarnish off the score-line for London, but Paddy Henry - who finished with 0-10 - and a fourth Henry goal made sure that wouldn't happen as they ensured an emphatic victory for Derry.
