So what do we make of the team? Interesting to see Brian Sheridan at 14,Hannigan gets the nod in goal. No Newman or Harnan on the bench suggests that they are up to the fitness level yet.

Strong enough team. Hope Wallace can bring some heat this year. Full back would be my only concern. has the potential

i'm extremely surprised reilly is playing. surely he should be concentrating on the club with an all ireland final in just over 2 weeks time? thoughts gents?

It's good to see Hannigan start in goals, it shows there is competition for places and he's not just going to pick players on reputation. It's a strong team and I'm confident of winning. We need Sheridan or Lenihan to play well for us to win I think.

Strong enough team, maybe thought POR would get the nod in goals but perhaps not fully fit. Big fan of Forde, glad he's involved.

Not surprised to be honest. If he played the full game against its Kildare. He was always going to start against Kildare.

If he was played in an O'Byrne Cup final 1 week out from All-Ireland semi-final then I don't think it's any surprised he's been picked for this game.

Not surprised at all really. Cant sit around for two weeks doing a bit of club training. If he was not going to play every game for Meath he would not be captain. He has to risk injury now but I also think he needs to be a bit more wise In the fact he has to know that other teams are going to be out to target him.

Serious lack of fire power for me, unless Lenihan hits the heights he is capable of I don't see us getting enough scores to beat Kildare.

Not much on bench in way of players that could make an impact either imo. Fiachra Ward and Newman must be still injured.

Hopefully we play with savage intensity and discipline and work the ball well and constructively to a clear plan. I don't want to see aimless kicks going wide or to the gk hands, we need to work the ball into the scoring positions and be patient, just like Dublin do. Thats what I'd like to see the most.

yes but i was surprised at that..how often do you see counties with clubs regularly in the all ireland club series play without these club players until their out, im not a colmcilles man but if it was my club id expect him to concentrate on the club for the 2 weeks

Four Ratoath players start, and another on the bench. Some people around here are not going to be happy!

I am delighted Jack Hannigan starts, I hope he given some decent protection and dose well.
Haven't seen Sheridan in years so I am not sure. He must going well in training to start. Here's hoping he dose well as we lacking big time here.
I am guessing Eamon Wallace is not going to play corner forward, He must be trying some sort of 2 man F F line.
Yep I am guessing Harnan is injured. He was one of top 3 performers last year. He must not be fit enough.
No Newman not sure what the story is there that's a loss it would be nice have him on the bench at least
I very surprised Conor Downey dose not start, if your going by the O'Byrne cup form he was a top performer. He is very unlucky not to start. Also I am not big fan of Power, Downey offer's a lot more in attack IMO. I can see Downey forcing his way in to the team though.
Good to Paddy Kennelly starting, he looked during the during the OBC except against Louth where he was tried at FF and it didn't work out, But it was worth a shot.
Where is not Bryan Mc Mahon ?

Is paddy not injured? I had heard he was.

The team is around expected lines. Andy must be seeing something more from the midfielders in training than we saw against Louth or is seeing very little from the rest of his options.

I am a bit meh about McGill at full back but hopefully he will prove to be the answer there.

I have to say that team isn;t stirring much excitement in me.
Good for Hannigan getting the start but Is this a change we'd see if Paddy was fully fit?
Keoghan - undroppable
McGill - meh not convinced at all. Think O'Neill comes in here post U21
Burke - an honest hard worker and trier but we need to move on from him. Tobin not being fit Possibly helped Stoney here
Power - Its a make or break for him. I personally rate see him as a centre back but he needs to show the defensive solidity whilst bombing on when it suits.
McEntee - the problem spot. Look lets give the kid a chance and see how he does.
Forde - Love this idea and think he's a great player to have in the team. Pace pace and pace.
Menton/ O'Brien - really need to up it after the last day. They weren't good enough despite andy giving them a lot of chances together.
Half forwards - As expected. Hopefully we get more from them on the scoreboard. Think Biggy and sully will do that with Paddy helping the Midfield duo and maybe chip in a score or two if he gets chances.
Wallace - I'd love some consistency from him. He has it in him to be a match winner if he gets the right ball and again lots of pace. If he could regularly get 4/5 scores a game (and he's well capable of it) he should be an automatic starter.
Sheridan - Huge risk. Injury means we didn't get to see enough of him and what andys plans might be for him in the team. This has a real boom or bust feel. If Newman is fit I think he comes in here. Or potentially Ward slips in here and Newman out to 12.
Lenihan - his time is now. We've seen the potential at club level. Nows the time for him to do it in the green and gold. He's got a manager who knows him and hopefully how to get the most out of him.

Bench is an interesting mix but like most i don't see a game changer on the bench if required. I think for me the questions i'm asking are about who's not there and why not. Newman and Harnan must be injured. Ditto re Tobin.

I think we're lacking that marquee forward right now in the FF line who's going to attract the double markers to free up biggy, sully and wallace the room to use their speed and direct game to its full.

Surprising lack of posts about the managers son starting center back. I'd like to get peoples opinion on this, happy he gets the chance but is it deserved?

Agree 100%. If we can't release a player for a few league games we are not in a great place. In Crossmaglen's time at the top Armagh had to do without the Crossmaglen players but I noticed in recent years that there were less and less of their players involved with the county does this suggest that county managers are less and less tolerant of clubs. If this is the case it is a very sad day.

He would play regardless who was manager despite never coming close to featuring under odowd, as I said I'm happy he gets the chance but not sure he deserves it, conor Downey looked excellent in the O'Byrne cup and Harnan is a better player than mcentee from what iv seen the last few years
