Yeah definitely, been captain there is little chance of missing first game in league at home.

Joe would seem to be the number 16. If that's the case. Does this mean por out? Don't know if tormey was ever on initial panel. Would love to know who kept from newbies, Kennelly ward Ross?

POR is available for selection against Kildare I believe. A bit strange Joe has been kept as goalkeeper at the expense of an actual goalkeeper if it's true though.

Is anyone else surprised that niall Kane and Padraig McKeever of simonstown wernt looked at in the O'Byrne? Both had outstanding years with club last year

Interesting to see Joe kept on and a real goalkeeper gone, what does that say to young Burlingham - "keep going sure when Joe turns 40 you might get a chance. I wonder is there an agenda behind Joe being kept and also Brian is still there but in fairness to him, if he is fit he would be a great asset in the fwd line, big strong and can win his own ball. From what I have heard Tormey only graduated late November and was just back training when he injured his ankle which he had being struggling with for a while. I was told he got injection in it about two weeks ago but still not really right. He played with Garda College last week and apparently played very well at centre forward. Somebody seems to think he can play. As for the comment Bob............. maybe Andy knows him, I would say yes he does, he was one of his best players while Andy was at the Club. Our man Cathal Finn gone aswell through injury, so no loyalty to him either. I hope Andy (fellow clubman) does well with Meath but I think he has his work cut out after what I have seen in O'Byrne Cup. Ziggy have you not the inside information on Tormey?

Andy knows what he needs from the lads on Sunday, is Ben brosnan on panel that's been cut? I think he could be our free taker.

But is it really? Past number of years we only had 2 keeper it would seem 2 have been choose and Joe is kept for some other reason, if Joe wasn't around would Robbie have been kept? I dont know. I think the choice was either jack or Robbie and jack got the nod.

I would hazard a good guess and add that they may have been asked and refused. Not everyone can put their life on hold and commit to 6-7 days a week -some folk do have day jobs. It is just a pity that the commitment in terms of days/week is gone to such a level that counties are missing out on some very good players. The days of enjoyment is beginning to get eroded and the intensity of training also means that more and more players are getting/carrying injuries.

I think like many of us ziggy uses a nickname on here that would easily be known by players within club, better off not to be put in that position, I have been there and some guys take offence even if you pointing out the obvious, and stating known facts. Better for those of us in that position to say nothing on individual players.

That's how the game has gone unfortunately, it's professional in all but name

From a total external perspective I thought that Andy was rushed back into the side too quickly last year after his dad passed away. He just didnt seem right then and I don't think he has played well with Meath since. He obviously has had a lot on his plate so I think he should be given some space but definitely not ruled out for the future - as Browncows said above there is such a level of commitment required that he might wish to be able to give it at the moment but the reality is maybe that he is not able to do so.

Regarding Cathal Finn, if he is injured then you have to trust Andy's call on it. Pity but you would hope that this is not the end of his Meath career as he showed up well last year.
