Mattie says there will be no 14 men behind the ball and he wants forwards to play as forwards.. That's a welcome change from what we were use to this past few years! Bring it on!

If we can replicate some of the outstanding attacking play in the last two years of Hyland's tenure we will do well.

Raymond Galligan is here for sure just working on a little twinge.

So if Mattie wants forwards as forwards are Cavan good enough to play that way? Do they have the defenders to deal with man to man situations?

Galligan has a slight injury so he's not being risked.

The Tyrone forwards cut through our defence the last day in the Championship like a hot knife through butter. We couldn't cope with Peter Harte and Co.

We don't know because the last few years we had forwards playing as defenders!

Exactly my concern as to the ideal of playing this attacking football that he has said he wants to play... Monaghan play a particular way because we have to. We simply don't have the players to leave ourselves open at the back. Posters on here however seem to think that Cavan are able to match a team man for man which I think is madness???

Interesting team selection for tomorrow - the managers hand probably forced by all the injuries and withdrawals
Good to see the likes of McCutcheon getting a start- even out of position. I like the look of the midfield - two giants of men who can also score - I just hope they re mobile enough tracking back. Also great to see McDermott back - I hope he gets a bit of an injury-free run. On the down side I m not convinced about Rory Dunne s value to the team - the more I see him the more I think he s gone backwards - two very poor games in the championship last year ( tyrone in the replay and the qualifier v Derry when he let the forward out jump him for the goal ) Great to Paul O Connor back in the squad he s a terrific player - hope he gets a chance to prove it Also Joe Dillon in the same category.
Anyway good luck to Mattie and the boys - could be our year !

The manager has slightly rolled back on this. If posters think we'll play all out attack in division one they're being naive.

Exactly my concern. People have small memories it wasn't so long ago when we suffered some of our worst defeats playing man for man. I remember kildare coming to town and walking straight through is. Longford 2011 Cork 2010 are more games that come to mind. Terry realised after that kildare game that to make us competitive again we needed to shut up shop. This worked very well and look where it got us . We shouldn't abandon this for the sake of it.

This looks like an experimentary 15 - at least the forward line. Gearoid, Givney, McVeety and Keating (who didnt play much last year) are missing for various reasons. But I like to think that Mattie has a way of playing and wants us to have a go, at least in the McKenna cup. I agree with you though in that we dont have the best forward line so we need to play to out strengths. Without Moynagh at centre back, id be worried about supply going in. We don't seem to have many playmakers in the team tomorrow. Will be good to get them out and see how we look.Good to see McDermott back in. Hopefully we will have much more options come the first round of the league and this is the time for players to stake a claim.

Also, I wouldn't exactly say that Cavan player defensive football last year! Put up some big scores in a promotion year from division 2.

Mackey, Martin Reilly , McVitty, were all playing as defenders even though named as forwards. Johnston was actually 70 metres from goal looking for the ball..
Hopefully that will all change now as Mattie wants forwards playing as forwards..
How will the TH brigade cope with such a change???

Your obsessed with th. Your the only one keeps bringing him up, and what's this terry brigade? and by the way he did do a great job bringing us from bottom of div 3 to div 1 if Mattie can bring us on as much we,l be be in the top 2 or 3, and I really hope he can, I,l be the supporting them all the way.

I think that this sums up your intelligence as a football man. Weren't we top scorers in the league last year? Did we not put up more than 15 points against monaghan Tyrone and derry in the championship? Do you go to cavan games or like deanmartin just listen to the local barman?

Indeed Cavan haven't played with 14 men behind the ball in 2 years at least.

I don't know if Argue is going to be the answer at midfield. He looked a bit timid and light to me anytime I saw him unless he has bulked up a bit.

I know that he is rated within the panel and hopefully McGleenan can give him some confidence. His confidence slipped in a certain ulster championship game in Breffni a couple of years ago when the instruction was to send missiles into him on a windy day. He was critisised but didnt really do anything wrong. Anyway, the way football is today and team layouts are shown, dont be surprised if he is corner back!! (joking with that but you get the jist).

I do like what im hearing from McGleenan. Lets hope for a performance tomorrow and seeing some hunger from our lads. Still early doors but a win over Tyrone would be good any time of the year!

Awwwwnow will you put money on Cavan's average scoring per game being higher this year under Mattie than it was last year under Hyland? Should be easy money given that Mattie is going to play more attacking football... It might not be fair betting on the League given that we're in a higher division but we can make the bet on Championship alone.

Seriously now put your money where your mouth is. If we can average 19.6 points per game under Hyland in the Championship with 14 men behind the ball and forwards playing in defence (both completely false claims by yourself) then I'm sure we should smash that with Mattie's attacking philosophy? I'm sure there'd be plenty more on here willing to take the bet too if you want to make yourself rich off the back of it.
