Just watching Cork v Kerry. If only we had a forward like James O'Donoghue in Cavan! Super player. Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts: 1071 - 06/07/2014 14:53:47 1614542 Link 0 |
gonnie glad to see someone mention Enda Reilly. Don't know why he's never being considered. He's strong and knows were the posts are. Jim_Shorts (Cavan) - Posts: 96 - 06/07/2014 15:12:20 1614559 Link 0 |
You are right Ned... O Donoghou is a super player but if he was in the Cavan team they would never kick the ball into him...!!!! Sean66 (Cavan) - Posts: 440 - 06/07/2014 16:45:41 1614638 Link 0 |
And if they actually did he probably wouldn't be allowed to shoot goonie (Cavan) - Posts: 308 - 06/07/2014 17:01:35 1614650 Link 0 |

Systems make it possible for very average footballers to look like a fairly decent team and allows them to frustrate their opposition. The downside of it is systems destroy the creativity of good players. Where a "system" approach is imposed by the management, good creative players cannot play risky football , be cause if they do take risks and it doesn't work out they are taken off and replace d with a robotic type player who will fit the "system". Forwards eg Enda Reilly , Paul O Connor, Eugene Keating are leaders and risk takers they have to be. But Cavan won't play them on the senior team till they get the creativity knocked out of them. Cavan have relied on this approach and it has paid off in so far as we have frustrated teams and not allowed them play but we will never play like Kerry, Mayo, Dublin or Tyrone as long as we stop the development of good players. So many clubs have sent. Good players in to the county system and they come back to their clubs having lost that edge that risk taking that made them good players to start with. I could name players who have gone back ways in the present system but I won't. Hope we win on Saturday we have done Trojan work on our tackling and defending , we have to let our forwards play, give them the ball and let them take their scores, and play our forwards as forwards. cfsm2012 (Cavan) - Posts: 76 - 06/07/2014 19:39:46 1614766 Link 0 |
Cork defending was like a Junior C team today, so of course it looked simple. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 06/07/2014 21:16:36 1614837 Link 0 |
Let's be realistic we did very well against Westmeath considering the players we were down but with 4 ulster u21s under our belt we haven't produced one out and out scoring forward. desagov (Cavan) - Posts: 208 - 06/07/2014 21:25:14 1614844 Link 0 |
