Wexford GAA shocked by John Harrington's sudden death

Wexford GAA has been numbed by the sudden death of former football star John Harrington at the age of 51.
Harrington made his Leinster SFC debut against Offaly in 1988 and went on to become one of the top midfielders in the country over the next decade. While he was best known for his football exploits with Wexford and his club Sarsfields, John was also an accomplished hurler with Faythe Harriers and captained them to county SHC honours in 2001.
In paying tribute to John, who has been described as a 'gentle giant', Faythe Harriers wrote on Facebook: “It’s with heavy hearts that we learn this morning of the sudden death of former player John Harrington.
“A battler, a warrior, a team-mate and friend to so many in the club. He won many underage titles with the club and he was an inspirational captain when we last won the Senior Hurling title in 2001.
“Condolences this morning to all his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all within the Harriers and Sarsfields clubs. Sleep well Big Harry. May He Rest In Peace.”
Predeceased by his wife 10 years ago, John leaves behind their two teenage children.
His death is the second tragedy to strike Wexford football in the last six weeks after his former team-mate Scott Doran died suddenly at the age of just 44 in late December.
