Is Dublin's Success False, Tarnished And Bought? - 8 Like(s)
I agree with every word in McKenna's article. The playing field is not level. Dublin have received €5mln extra in government grants in the past 10 years and also receive 20 times the average amount (per active player) that other counties get from GAA central funds. On top of that, they have home advantage for every game that matters, access to the biggest sponsors and their population is huge and growing. If and when they win 6 or 7 in a row, then something will be done about it because the GAA wont even be able to sell the tickets to Dublin fans. Why not do something now instead? I don't think splitting the county is workable but they could easily address the imbalance in central council funds immediately.

Connolly interfering with match official - 4 Like(s)

Replying To TheUsername:  "Spillane was hilarious last night, I hope he had rubber pants on, he was a mixture of excited and fearful, all he could say was "Kerry, Kerry, Kerr" like a a five year girl guide as opposed to the usual seven year old. Poor old Kildare were called Kerry at one point. Still think this there will be a middle ground here. Its a bit of a storm in a team Cup really he will be back for the games that count fresh and fit even with the 12 week bam, hope he goes and gets a bit of Sun on his bones. He has been going full pelt club and county without yield for most of the decade, A well deserved break in my opinion. He will be coming back in against teams worn and carrying niggles. I would even be tempted to throw him on in games imagine that tactical rejigging to be done, the perfect ploy."
Arrogance from Dublin fans to suggest that they will cruise to All Ireland semi even without Connolly. He is their most important player and they are vulnerable without him. One more injury to somebody like Kilkenny or Fenton and Kerry become strong favourites.

Replying To LLG:  "If we don't play at least one sweeper and possibly two next Sunday, we will lose by 25 points. This would demoralise everybody and give us no chance in the qualifiers. So we have everything to lose by simply "going for it". The game plan has to be keep it tight for as long as possible, and if the game breaks in our favour, take any opportunities that are presented. There are some deluded Westmeath fans out there advocating all out attack. Do you remember what happened to us in 2009 or to Longford two years ago?"
Hate to say I told you so.......

It's a good job the usual suspects on this forum don't reflect the general mood in the county. We had a good league, fell short right at the end but put in a few great displays. Laois are coming up from division 4 but they went a long way behind a poor Wexford team before they woke up. We have to expect to win this game and if we play well we should win well. Hopefully we get a good crowd to the match but I know 5pm Saturday doesn't suit everyone.

There seems to be a big rush to defend the player and brush it under the carpet no matter what he did. Where do we draw the line?

This sounds very ominous. Say what you like about Cribbin but at least he had a united dressing room.

This competition has suited us fine this year, still plenty of young lads on the team and they are still improving. We will get a shot at a third place Leinster or Munster team this year if we make the mcDonagh final and every chance we can spring a surprise.

Replying To lady_gaagaa:  "Blanket defence had nothing to do with that defeat, and no Westmeath did not have a go. They were just a shambles plain and simple. No kickout strategy at all, no fight, no belief, completely disorganised, complete lack of urgency when in possession and standing off the Dubs when they had it. The obvious lack of fight and determination is down to the players. The complete lack of any semblance of a gameplan or strategy is down to Cribben. It was especially galling to see him laugh and joke when shaking hands with Gavin after the match. Even Gavin looked a little embarrassed. Said it all really. His team takes a massive beating and he is smiling."
Blanket defence would have kept the score down but clearly supporters did not want it so the manager did not employ it. The outcome was therefore predictable. We are light years behind Dublin and these games are there to be survived with some shred of dignity intact. Criticism of the players is very unfair, they are the best we have, they give everything and they can play when allowed to. Tom was friendly to Jim at the end. What do you suggest he should have done?
