Replying To LohansRedHelmet:  "I disagree.

The comment I was making about them not being real fans are that in reality clowns like this couldnt really care less about whats happening on the pitch, they are more interest in the day out and the p*ss up."
Sorry, I usually find myself in agreement with your posts, but this is pure speculation on your part. Unless you know them all personally, how can you possibly say what their motivation was? And all the circumstantial evidence would undermine your argument: they went to the expense of traveling to the game and paying for entrance, all of which would indicate some level of interest in what transpired on the field of play. They may have had other motivations in attending, but sadly you cannot simply dismiss them as not real fans.

We had idiot fans yesterday in the Limerick end as well, throwing cans,a green flare down on top of other Limerick fans, that element are in alot of counties and are mostly young age 17-20,drunk kids, nothing wrong having a few pints but these fools shouldn't be allowed in,it's a gaa problem

Can't blame the alcohol for everything, the fast majority of people that drink have never been in a fight in there life's, them few fans are just a pack of pathetic losers who want to be like there soccer cousin's, unfortunately every county has them, these losers should be named and shamed.

These young bucks on our terrances have always been an issue if they were in a stand sitting down I'm sure you wouldnt see this messing.

Bad image for our game and of course gives Tipp fans who attend hurling matches a bad name.

I hope their names were passed to Semple Stadium and a ban for them but that probably wont happen."
In fairness I am going to matches for many a long day and being to several matches involving Tipp and my own county and indeed I have been involved in some frank exchanges with Tipp fans in the heat of battle (Oldtourman can give and take the verbals, in the midst of torrid encounters). However, I can assure you, it would take more than a few yahoos like these yobs to give the real Tipp supporters a bad name.
BTW looking to that last Match in Thurles. There should hell for leather.

yes and those kids have parents too....should the education not be by them?
i have long said that entry to gaa matches needs to be a bit like getting into a night club, etc.turn away these drunken morons.and then rte zooms their cameras in on the mayhem on the terraces that these drunk louts are when they get a goal.
also have long argued that a slab of cans cheaper than you'd buy a slab of water is the real problem.
i love an auld pint or two but never went to a game inebriated in my life.

That takes some doing, following Wexford over the last 20 years.

The Empire is gone. They no longer control these places. A thing called de-colonization put an end to that sort of thing, back about fifty years before the end of the last millennium. Great stowing, as my Granny used to say, back in the day

Dunno what point you're trying to make but 100 years ago they'd be in a flying column putting their fighting skills to the test..

Its got nothing to do with the game. A few idiots in the terrace acting the tough men probably drinking all morning before the game. They are not real fans. They need to be identified and named and shamed. That would deter this behavior in future.
LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 1946 - 20/05/2019 09:31:42
what exactly are real fans LohansRedHelmet? What makes you a real fan and what doesnt make you a real fan?
Identifying and naming and shaming them wouldnt do anything

Funny heard of this before from about a small few Tipp fans. 2008 Munster final against Clare in Limerick springs to mind. I did not see it as was in Castlebar that day for the earlier game (Connacht Final). I would suspect a small band. I remember at the 2015 hurling semi final a few of our crew appeared to be messing with some Tipp fans on the hill. Think it might have been handbags but was difficult to sew down the other end.

Its bit wrong to just tar Tipperary fans with this when all counties have fans who act like this.

Im sure everyone here has have incidents where drunk people have effected their match day experience.
They shouldn't be let in, simple as. I have no problem with people going for a few drinks before the game, its the bus loads of people drinking the night before then topping up the next morning. I honestly don't understand why they just don't go to the pub to watch it.
Maybe there needs to be more stewards/Guards at grounds.
The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 1546 - 20/05/2019 10:08:14
you cant stop people from going into a ground simply because theyve had a few cans/pints.

I disagree.

The phrase real fans is a load of bollox. You cant define who is more of a fan. Ive went on bus like that drinking all day before a game and its included many guys who are seriously good club players and one who's played county football for tipp.... They do care about the pitch/result but yeah theyre their for day out and piss up and whats wrong with that?

Its a few young thick skins up to no good no interest in hurling what so ever. Its just a day out of the town for them most of them wouldnt know a hurley from a sweeping brush if it hit them.

who do you suggest is employed to turn people away then? Ticket prices would have to increase for security/bouncers to be in place...

We're lucky that terrace wasn't full. The issue here isn't the actual fight (which is bad in and of itself), its how everyone around reacts to a fight. When that level of violence kicks off, most people try to get away from it, which could lead to a real crush on a packed terrace.

Maybe its lucky we don't get the same attendances at provincial games now, that we used in periods like the late 90's. Apart from Croke Park and PUC, most stadiums like Thurles are just patched up, not actually modern or safe. We've been riding our luck with this kind of things for a while, eventually that luck will run out.

Its only a few slaps, no one was seriously hurt.

Not nice to see but no need for the hyperbole around it either

The vast majority of people are impeccably behaved at ALL sporting events in most countries. One or two young fellas being silly shouldnt doesn't change that, and as a side-point, comparing this to the behaviour of soccer fans across the water is pathetic too. Just an excuse for GAA heads to slander other sports like their own is beyond reproach is just stupid.

The lads were released without charge. Move on..

A flying column would have let those guys in?? I should hope not. Anyway the point I want to make is that they should be doing some national service or the like. They of course could join the Irish or British military as they are entitled to still join either one ,but my overall point is maybe there should be a year or 2s national service like there is in Switzerland or Israel. Their behaviour is despicable really and there should have been a guard there to give them the heavy end of the Billy club.
