I'd agree. The griping appeared to be from a vocal minority and I'm sure a large percentage of the attendees were happy to half their journey to attend what turned out to be a cracker.

The tight pitch completely suited that average Kerry team , 14 man Mayo without lee Keegan battered Kerry and only for a few high balls to Donaghy it would of been a comfortable mayo victory, mayo are a fast athletic team that love Croke Park moving it to limerick was a disaster for Mayo. Look what happened in '17 when they played in Croker again.

Agree and the atmosphere in limerick is often mentioned but the first day in Croke Park was electric too...I think there was 57,000 at the first game nearly all mayo fans. Obviously more Kerry fans travelled to limerick for the replay.

The 4 home teams in div 1 won their games yesterday proving that home advantage is massive in Gaelic football and so it should go without saying that Dublin should not have 2 home games in the super 8s. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 28/01/2019 14:30:36 2160411 Link 3 |
One round of league games where all teams are not near up to speed does not provide proof of anything. You may be able to infer some sort of trend at the end of the league campaign but you'd likely have to analyse the percentage of home victories, taking all relevant factors into account (e.g. team already relegated / guaranteed a league final position, significant percentage of the panel still involved with their club etc.), over a significant period before you can come towards anything approaching a definitive conclusion.

31 other counties in the GAA. Dubs will play where we're told. Hopefully the 31 can organise that party on the brewery. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13718 - 28/01/2019 17:44:41 2160491 Link 3 |
Is any other home ground opened up to all other counties to familiarise themselves with by playing all IC, and club championship AI series there. Kerry must play in CP at least 4/5 times a year.

So ye lost one home game out of 11 last year and 1 out of 10 in 2017 and ye lost no game at home in 2016 2015 I'm not sure but I'd think ye lost no game at home that year either. That's hardly a good argument though. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 28/01/2019 22:59:35 2160599 Link 2 |
If the geographical pairings made it suitable to use Semple, PUC or Gaelic Grounds for a semi final then I'd have no issue, a lot of grounds are operating below their original capacities and require works of some kind to get back to those capacities, I don't think MacHale Park is allowed anywhere near 38k at the minute and all of the grounds capable of holding a semi final are south of the midway line of the country. A Dublin/Cork semi in football or hurling or Dublin/Kerry in football, Dublin/Galway in either code could possibly go to Thurles but it does lack corporate facilities and being honest needs a complete overhaul I think. Kerry/Galway or Cork/Galway, Mayo/Cork or Mayo/Kerry could go to Limerick and the capacity there could hold those games although again corporate facilities are lacking, I like the idea and I think we do need to utilise these grounds more and see improvements carried out on them for comfort and facilities more than capacity but it would depend on the pairings if it would suit Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3734 - 28/01/2019 23:19:58 2160604 Link 2 |
Cant happen. GAA sold all the long term tickets in Premium level and corporate boxes with guarantee of semi-finals included. bad.monkey (USA) - Posts: 4624 - 29/01/2019 11:22:04 2160664 Link 0 |
Not really relevant to the topic but I read lately that as recently as 1987 there was a hurling All Ireland Semi Final played in Dundalk. Thought it was a mistake but there it is on Wikipedia. A crowd of 4,962 watched Kilkenny beat Antrim. I wouldn't have guessed that sort of thing was happening as late as 87. Greenfield (Meath) - Posts: 522 - 29/01/2019 11:49:36 2160668 Link 0 |
You dont need a tribunal of investigation to know that of course playing home matches in the Gaa is an advantage as in the majority of other team sports. The main relevant factor is that home teams win more then away teams.

Dublin's first away defeat in 4 years in league or championship , we've lost more games In Croke Park than anywhere else the last 4 years. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 30/01/2019 15:43:25 2160974 Link 4 |

How many games have ye lost at home in those 4 years ? 3 ? Considering ye'd have had only about 14 away games in that 4 years and ye had roughly about 44 home games I'd be thinking.
