Bottom line is goal should not have mattered. We had enough chances to have been out of sight by that stage and didn't take them. Our work rate is phenomenal but apart from McManus and o Connell i was never confident today seeing any of our players in scoring positions. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1802 - 22/07/2018 22:20:39 2124913 Link 0 |

You obviously don't get to Clones too often. There are no nets behind the goals in Clones. The ball will often knock of the wooden seats and bounce back into play or the fans themselves will throw the ball back on. There are no strategically placed members of the Monaghan backroom team behind the goal doing that in case that's what you think. Happened to Beggan plenty times too and you could tell he was fed up with it. The umpires could ,of course, help the situation but the fact they are 97 years old seems to hinder them.

I know Paul Geaney went off and came back on again but I didn't think it was blood related. the following players were subbed from my memory of it: Kevin McCarthy,Mark Griffin, Sean O' Se, Jack Barry,Paul Geaney, and Then Geaney came back on, not sure for who so that wouldbe 6

Personally i would put out our second team against monaghan put kerry out of there misery and play Dublin in semi final if your goi g to win the al lireland your going to have to beat Dublin and kerry gone than we would have a great chance in final. galwayted (Galway) - Posts: 26 - 23/07/2018 09:07:11 2124978 Link 0 |
Heart would go out to Monaghan but I think they know they only have themselves to blame. The chances missed in the first half were criminal. McManus and Beggan were outstanding but I thought Kerry put in a great effort second half. They deserve a lot of credit for how they went for it. The referee gave Monaghan quite a few handy calls, Kerry should have had a few more scoreable frees but one could argue that this is the balance of the way decisions are given to teams when they play at home. Kerry will probably find themselves getting a few of these in 2 weeks time. keithlemon (Australia) - Posts: 920 - 23/07/2018 09:39:21 2124996 Link 0 |

Some game of football...Can't believe there wasn't anyone highlighting the fact that despite that terrible handpass at the end by the monaghan player there was a fould as he went to go down on the ball.. BigJohn.6_8 (Galway) - Posts: 704 - 23/07/2018 13:30:42 2125184 Link 0 |
Felt sick for Monaghan at the final whistle. They were by far the better team. Although Malachy O'Rourke's management has to be questioned after bringing on only three substitutes over 75 minutes of energy sapping championship football. Too many Monaghan players were out on their feet like Kearns and Darren Hughes who ran themselves into the ground. Kieran Hughes and Dessie Mone are great subs to have but they are obviously lacking in strength in depth and I feel this will catch up on them in Galway. gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 23/07/2018 13:32:28 2125188 Link 2 |

Yerrah what will be will be and in fairness I wouldn't mind seeing Monaghan going through to the semifinal, we can take a lot out of this year in that all our young lads have stepped up and showed up all our established players and so called leaders of the team.

Can't let that go unchallenged. Off the top of my head....... O'Connell with a text book tackle in the first half to win the ball cleanly (kind of tackle we coach the kids to make). Free in and point to O'Se Free for off the ball tackle giving Kerry a close in free. There was nothing in it - he did give Monaghan a similar one in the 2nd half so we can call this quits 2 Kerry lads collide on the sideline and Monaghan come away with he ball. Ref blows up play rightly to check if they are okay but then inexpicably throws the ball in. Kerry win it and work it down for a point The well documented handling on the ground by Walsh that was incorrectly blown for a free. Goal came directly from this. That's 3 referring mistakes that led directly to 5 points and I haven't even mentioned him bottling out of the Donaghy decision which was a red or nothing. Yellow is a cop out. Can you find me 5 points in the other direction ? footballfirst (Dublin) - Posts: 48 - 23/07/2018 14:18:12 2125222 Link 6 |
Yes seemed to be a home town ref once again as he certainly seemed to have the white jersey on, we have seen this with most games with the ref favouring the home side with the exception of Tyrone in Omagh where i thought they were harshly treated with alot of the calls from Coldrick. The dubs also have had favours in croke park year after year which they dont need as they have been playing better then most anyway. Our game in Killarney will probably be the same though but that wont be much use to us if Monaghan beat Galway. Whatever about the ref though Monaghan probably should have been out of sight as they dominated the game throughout and do deserve to go through whatever happens in two weeks. Yeah no complaints. Missed a bit on both sides as all refs do. It's an impossible game to ref now, all you can hope for is that the mistakes balance out. Kerry were woeful again yesterday. We are getting routinely killed on restarts and some of our established players are just not doing it this year for whatever reason, the youngsters are flying though. If something clicks against Kildare and we get the result we need in Salthill then there may still be some hope for our season but looking very unlikely in fairness. Have to agree with you here, really it should be Monaghan in the semi final. What stands out for me are the the phase before Kerry goal that should have been pointed and the chance right at the end following the goal. I know they were out on their feet and there was huge pressure, but that lack of composure is the killer and the fine margins at this level, its gutting really. But thats the game and fair play to Kerry keeping at it, was a terrific finish by young Clifford and could of only went one place to go in. I liked a bit of what i saw from Kerry yesterday despit the doom and gloom around them, a bit of real talent their but the old and the new just arent gelling for me. With some missing parts across the lines in midfield and in the half back and full back line. They have the core of about five quality players but really these days you need 10+ at the very minimum. i thought their discipline let them down again yesterday and i think Dongahey was lucky not to get a red. I think Monaghan got some very soft stuff in fairness maybe to compensate. Clifford was great as was the young full back, i think its O Brien or O something, White was good going forward but not great defending, Clifford was excellent and why they dont play to his strengths is beyond me, i do feel a bit for young Sean O Shea he was Kerrys best player by a mile and a real leader and think he should get many of the plaudits heaped on Clifford, but probably works for the lad, beyond me why they took him off maybe he was carrying something from Galway. I though young Barry in midfield was a bit of a a liability but he had a decent last quarter. I think Kerry will get through in all honesty i just think Monagahan dont have enough to go to salt hill and win or draw unless there are shenanigans. McManus will be snuffed out with a sweeper and wont clock the score he did yesterday and i cant see where the other points will come from, will be a tight enough game i suspect with Galway just pipping it if they are up for it. Be a great occasion if its a Dublin and Kerry semi and i suspect it would be barnstormer with no motivation required. Something to look forward to should it come to pass. The makings of a good team in Kerry they need another 5 or 6 though with this group in my opinion. What has happened to Paul Geaney, its such a huge loss not having him in form. One of the biggest problems I find with Kerry is the amount of ex Kerry players working in the media! You have all three O'Se's, Tomas, Daragh and Mark, Pat Spillane, Bomber Liston has a column, Mike Quirke does bits for Newstalk, Colm Cooper on RTE, Paul Galvin in the Irish Times, Dara O'Cinneade does media work, Aidan O'Mahony voices his opinion a bit, its a fairly long list and it cannot be helpful for Fitzmaurice who was teammates of most of these fellas, and is good friends and a brother in-law to some of them. You had all three O'Se's basically picking the team for him this week telling him to start Donaghy etc, if they have so much knowledge of what needs to be done why don't they put themselves forward for the job next time it comes up? I can guarantee you not one of them will. It just cannot be healthy to have so many of your own county men writing big articles about your own county every week in national newspapers!
