Roscommon manager Anthony Cunningham admits that the threat of playing in tier two was something that troubled them before last weekend’s win over Kildare.

The Rossies could be dragged back into the Division 2 relegation battle, but it would take a bizarre run of results for that to happen over the coming weeks.

They are now very much back in the hunt for promotion as they are one of four teams on five points, one behind leaders Cavan.

This weekend, they face neighbours Westmeath at Dr Hyde Park and Cunningham told the Roscommon Herald that they are looking forward to the game as they look up and not down.

“We did talk about it. You wouldn’t believe it but guys have to be made aware of the consequences of winning or losing, even a match like this,” said Cunningham.

“It was always going to be difficult for the loser of this match. Kildare will probably still find a way out of trouble and go on to survive, but it’s very close.

“We’re just delighted to get the win, but now it’s all about Westmeath. We’re not looking beyond that.”
