Down v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

We were poor, Andy has a serious job to do, wouldn't be surprised if we won next day out. The only consistent is inconsistentcy. Graham looked the last week had taken its toll (naturally) and the decision to start him I would question, still popped up with two fantastic points, other was another positive e Wallace way to easily dispossessed , O'Brien just not cutting it for me. I am sure a few 21s will be drafted in, again when running at our backs we seem very open.

I'll be at both, you support and travel through the good times and the bad.
That's my philosophy anyway

Replying To bert09:  "Sorry --- but Meath management team need to take some flack for this.

What was the kick out strategy?
What lessons have been learnt over the last few games?
What was plan b?
Why were some players left on the pitch so long when it was clear they were not at the races?
Why are our players soft?

It's a complete joke. There can't be any excuses...At the very least you would expect to see a bit of fight, a game plan and improvement over games."
Very little respect been shown to Down here ' who do you think you are Meath?!!!!

Good man now back to Fermanagh forum with you. Or you could congratulate Down on theirs.

Feel exactly the same way, any time we kick on like the 2nd half v Derry I think it's the start of some momentum...... then we roll out performances like tonight. Bit of consistency is all I want to see

We got the expected reaction from out team tonite given all the recent bad press. We are not great but I know now we will be a match for any teams we play in this league from now on.

Both sides were (are) very poor, but we were the worst. Down had a bit of life about them and counter attacked quickly. Too much lateral and backwards passing going nowhere; and wasting time here, there and everywhere, but they (Down) still fully deserved their victory. We could have snatched an undeserved draw at the death. Meath were playing catch up all night and could not get close enough ... the clock just kept running down and the gap remained largely the same. We let Down dictate the game from the start (and with a goal head start) and never looked much of a threat going forward with so many players behind the ball.

Sitting in KFC car park in Omagh eating a bucket of chicken, the only part of the evening that's proving enjoyable mind you some of the waffle from the Louth and Fermanagh scribes has given me a much needed laugh. Meath were awful tonight simple as, and now we face Galway, barring a major improvement I will be eating KFC next Sunday too....

1. Paddy O'Rourke 6 (made a good save and dealt well with high balls, but 1 shocking kickout)

2. Donal keoghan 7 (kicked a beaut of a point, played pretty well)
3. Conor McGill 6 ( an improvement from recent performances, wasn't bad)
4. Ruairi o'caoilean 4 ( poor defensively, and gave the ball away at times)

5. William carry 4 ( what a change from last week, struggled big time tonight, his use of possession was poor)
6. Brian power 4 ( much like above, does he value possession at all ?)
7. Shane McEntee 4 ( kicked 3 or 4 hail Mary balls that led to nothing, didn't defend well either)

8. Bryan Menton 4 ( seriously worrying how inconsistent his performances are, outstanding last week, really poor this week)
9. James Toher 6 ( kicked 2 fantastic points, missed 1 bad free which he clearly rushed, not great not bad)

10. Alan forde 4 ( lost count of the amount of times he lost the ball, was chasing the tail of down players all night)
11. cilian o'sullivan 5 ( probably shouldn't have even played, clearly has some sort of facial injury, wasn't himself tonight)
12. Cian O'Brien 4 ( need him to win kickouts, he won precisely nothing.. very disappointing )

13. Graham Reilly 6 ( 2 points from play, far from his best however)
14 Brian Sheridan 5 ( won some ball early, but never a scoring threat and his marker was generally on top throughout)
15 Donal Lenihan 7 ( 7 points, 6 out of 6 from frees of which 3 he won himself, nice score from play with his left foot, our best player)

While I would lwish I could disagree with that assessment it's pretty spot on unfortunately.
However tomorrow the sun will rise and we will look forward to our next game. Oh the joys of been a royal supporter.

Meath had numerous problems today.
1 way to narrow no width in play it's like we had no wing forwards/corner forwards
2 standing off men and trying to just filter back
3 bad shooting decisions from forwards
4 Sean Tobin is a better footballer than Sheridan
5 Mcentee won the club all Ireland with a serious club team and serious players. Meath need a manager that will just tell me to play ball no systems. Hopefully mcentee will see this and we can get the ball rooling
If not Meath won't will go down and could be a very short championship

I just don't know anymore...Meath have got to be the worst away team in the country. Were just a far inferior side away from Pairc Tailtean !! The management do have to questions to answer ? Hammered by Kildare , Louth and now beaten by a Down team is crisis apparently.. now I fully believe the players are trying there best but there best ain't good enough ! Graham Reilly was shocking tonight along with Menton O'Rourke O'Brien O'Sullivan Sheridan and others .. We need Harnan and Tobin back pronto! O'Coilean aint a corner back! I said it before the Derry game that Carry is not good enough and tonight proved it! Hopefully next time is a better result ! Because Royal Dunnes Promotion bet is up in smoke now!

Very disappointing performance. are they really the best players available in Meath. No heart, no game palm. Was very hard watching that as a Meath fan
