On what basis are you including Newman? Just wondering... Aside from anything else he hasn't kicked a ball under McEntee yet. BarneysTie (Meath) - Posts: 258 - 31/01/2017 14:31:37 1950569 Link 0 |
Probably agree although I'd have Kennelly in.

1. Jack Hannigan 2. donal keoghan 3. conor mcgill 4. mickey burke (I am guessing D tobin is injured) 5. conor downey 6. padraig harnan 7. alan forde 8. bryan menton 9. Adam flanagam 10. Cllian o'sullivan 11. Graham reilly 12. Paddy kennelly 13. Bryan mcmahon 14. mickey newman 15. Donal lenihan I would change it a bit. I would start Kennelly bring on Emmon Wallace later in the game to use his pace. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1263 - 31/01/2017 14:46:53 1950574 Link 0 |
that's is definitely a fair point, im presuming he was maybe carrying a injury throughout the obyrne cup, my reason for including him is simple enough, in my eyes hes our biggest point and goalscoring threat

I'd be slightly disappointed that after all the players tried if we're going with guys who have already been there before and there's nothing much new. It would show a few things 1) there's no new talent available from within 2) Andy is putting it to the lads there to show they can actually do it 3) Some lads might be on their last chances and could be replaced by lads coming from U-21's 4) With a clearer game plan maybe these guys can actually perform 5) He's hoping the U21can go far, get the winning habit and infuse them into the team come championship team and that will be the injection of freshness we require to improve the team I think Andy will now start showing his hand in terms of a definitive team, game plan and tactics. He's tried out he's pieces and has a better idea of where they will fit on the board. If i was to hazard a guess for Sunday I'd say he goes Hannigan Curran Keogan McGill Harnan Power Forde C O'Brien Menton O'Sullivan Reilly Kenneally Wallace O'Coilean Newman I think come championship time it'll be Hannigan Keogan O'Neill McGovern Harnan Conlan Forde C O'Brien Menton O'Sullivan Reilly Newman Wallace O'Coilean McLoughlin brian (Meath) - Posts: 1954 - 31/01/2017 15:25:02 1950593 Link 0 |

Dan O Neill was taken off after 30 mins yesterday for u21s. I really don't see the basis of everyone including him in future teams. McGovern was cut from the senior panel as far as I'm aware so I doubt he'll be magically back in come championship. Personally don't think Conlon is an inter county 6. If people were complaining about Joey Wallace being too small to start then they're going to have a field day if you think McLoughlin will be starting TakeYourPoints6 (Meath) - Posts: 230 - 31/01/2017 16:48:20 1950628 Link 4 |
Dan O'Neill was an injury doubt before the game,I would suggest that is why he was taken off.

I would dispute that, although I haven't looked back at the stats. His free-taking is erratic, and to my eye he has offered little to nothing from open play since his first season when, in fairness, he was excellent. Seems to have gone backwards since then for whatever reason. But maybe Andy can reinvigorate him.

As far as I remember Newmans stats for frees was in and around 65%, not good enough if we are to progress. Has been poor from open play over last two years. But we have not seen him yet under new management, so hopefully they can help get him back to the form of a few years back.

To say he's offered nothing from play is just not true, if you look at stats he was our top goalscorer 4 years in a row, and with no disrespect to Kennelly, ruairi ocaoilean or whoever you view as his replacement they are just not on his level, Andy needs to get the best out of Newman if we are to have good year.

It's his job to reinvigorate players not just select replacements. Newman has earned another shot I'd say.

I expect we'll see the team today, and I expect a surprise or two. The teams the past few weeks certainly haven't been as clear cut as an A and B. I read Cian O Neil saying he's been watching us, as you'd expect, as Andy would too so I suspect Andy was showing nowhere near his full hand, also why the Louth game didn't really bother me in the slightest. There will have been players there that day barring a miracle performance were never making Sundays starting 15, and I was nearly more interested in the Saturday game against Donegal in that sense. There's no secrets with your Keoghans and Biggies so he's played them as any league rivals will know their game inside out anyway, and he's shrewd enough to keep a trick or two up his sleeve. There's enough evidence to support this from the teams so far and I think Andy has played it quite clever. On the game itself I'm excited and nervous in equal measure, I have Kildare about on our level right now so can't see much in it, the bookies can't split it either as I expected. I'm hoping home advantage with a noisy Meath crowd and hungry team can swing it our way. We'll know Sunday evening where we're really at, please god it's a positive result to set us up nicely. dunboynelad (Meath) - Posts: 227 - 02/02/2017 09:52:56 1951142 Link 0 |
I should probably mention I've no real gra for Kildare, that has some bearing on the nerves! :D dunboynelad (Meath) - Posts: 227 - 02/02/2017 10:34:45 1951161 Link 0 |
Brian Sheridan starts, didn't see that coming, I'm OK with this team but can't lie very worried with the goalkeeper, Harnan and Bryan MacMahon not even on the bench would probably suggest they're carrying a knock, excited for the debutants in particular Shane mcentee and Kennelly who were key players in Andy's Andy's 2012 minors redser123 (Meath) - Posts: 403 - 03/02/2017 07:13:02 1951408 Link 0 |
