New players for Meath panel

These threads are always great. Yes I'm sure there's not another talent like him in the county. I'm also sure Seneschalstowns 2nd team free taker could be our missing link FFS HAHA!

Anyway truth being told we have a few to come back in from injuries, everyone at senior grade more or less been tried at this stage. Get the likes of Menton back, go all out for Bray if he fancies one more year perhaps, after that leave it to the underage set up to bring players through in due time.

Ironically enough, whoever suggested Ashbourne and Dunboynes Dublin lads, I'd argue they'd be the only ones who could add to what's already there quality wise. That's for another thread though and one I probably wouldn't get involved with!

No way is he county material.."
Well that shows what you really know ziggy when you mention all the above minors from last year and he was arguably the best forward they had.

You'd be probably taken more seriously without the "there isn't another talent like him in the county" stuff that's the norm for whatever player posters campaign for in these new player threads every year that just makes it look laughable.

I have seen McGowan play for Slane, including against Ashbourne's 3rd team.He is not a bad player, but not county standard. Not too sure what minor players I have named from last year outside of Ronan Jones.

He is another small, fast player and we have better players of his style available in the county.

Who is Darragh Campion btw? Saw Skryne in the league recently and they completely relied on O Rourke at FF and Rooney showed some glimpses but nothing else stood out.

As for David McGloughlin from Moynalvey, if it's who I'm thinking of he was brought in and looked at last year as far as I know. He's a tidy and lively forward, I don't know if he's good enough but I would be more inclined to have a look than some of the downright bizarre shouts so far. From the same club mentioned I don't think young Harnan is upto it just yet.

There seems to be a fascination with bringing in 18/19 year olds as if we're going to unearth the next Geraghty the whole time on here. It doesn't happen, if you're good enough you'll develop with the 21s and more importantly your club, unless you're a potential superstar that can add to it straight away. Jones is an exception last year, but he could be arguably the best midfielder on form in the senior championship so that solves that argument. Before that was Biggy in straight out of minor? He was good enough anyway. Before that I'd guess Alan Nestor perhaps who was one of the best minors I can remember seeing with Meath. Shane O Rourke? Just to add some perspective to the Slane shout above anyway.

In fact that reminds me, if Shane O Rourke can get back to his best then yes please, thought I read he was a standout in the draw against Navan. Still only 28 as well I think.

And that's your reason for not looking at him for 21/senior. Because we've loads of small fast players? To be honest I've read most if not all your posts that one probably not well thought out. How can anyone right off 18/19 year old. If your so sure he won't make it can you tell me who else won't make it from the mentioned players.

Cathal finnegan is 16 so too young to play with adult teams. His brother plays with the junior team.

He may make it in the future, but for now at this moment in time, I would think he has a lot of improvement to reach that level. At present we have better players of his style.Could he be in the U21 panel next year? Absolutely..

The original poster said there wasn't another talent like him the county, which suggests he is our best underage player.

Campion was with the Meath minor side this year.

Right well theres my point, he may not have been even playing and this isn't against anyone and the last thing I want to come across is a critic of our underage talent but for christ sake we're discussing whether we can strengthen our 15/20 next year from players that weren't involved this year, it's not predictor of our line up in 2021.

Having seen quiet a few intermediate games this year , I think there are a few strong players Andy could get the best out of and turn them in to better senior county players. For example Ciaran Kelly St.Colmcilles, Cian McPartland Oldcastle and Daire Lynch Trim. These lads are relatively young and are playing well on strong intermediate teams

You suggest he's not county standard? How do you know? Seeing a lad play a couple of times then come on here and right off a young lads future potential is wrong Keith
