The whining from football (or hurling even) about "players rights" when they need more than a week break to recover is ridiculous. Playing a match once a week is fine. I don't see the problem with it. Professional and amateur footballers do it all the time, as well as other sports. Rescheduling fixtures and delaying the season because of this is a joke.

Sure it's only hurling. Easily play 3 games in 3 weeks. All u do is launch the ball from one end of the field to the other. Don't need to be fit for that. Proper order the look after the footballers and give this elite bunch a few extra days rest before playing club championship.

As a long time football supporter I think our hurlers do get the thin end of the wedge Certainly the comment re burn all hurley etc demonstrates an ignorant unbecoming attitude. Some of us as football supporters don't condone that attitude We are all gaa family anyway. We are trying to develop our footballers for the last few years. Why not invest in our hurlers also? As a follower of all Meath teams with hurling my preffered sport i find your comment to be totally out of order and your obviously a bit of a clown and childish posting comments like this, try refrain from been so silly and support Meath on mass, if you have nothing constructive to say maybe say nothing at all

The reality here is that Meath is a football county with a football county board ,the people who take up positions on the hurling board in Dunganny have no say and arent listened too, tickets sales is whats more important , i like the hurling but winning a third tier competition with Donegal and Roscommon in it who wouldnt be hurling strong holds is probably a far cry away from the super eights in the county boards eyes .the people who take these positions in Meath representing hurling clubs dont make enough noise imo. elguapo (Meath) - Posts: 51 - 16/07/2019 17:45:09 2211980 Link 0 |

To add insult to injury the people who paid in to watch this match were refused a refund on the way out...! We arrived just before the scheduled throw in and we paid €20 to get in (€10 each), twenty minutes later we were told the game had been called off because the ref who was supposed to be reffing the game said "he didn't know a thing about it" and there were no other referees available. The U17s fixture on the adjacent pitch likewise didn't have a ref so that too had to be cancelled. These things happen I suppose (but obviously it would never happen to a football match) so we headed back to the ticket office at the gate only to be told by the Trim GAA officials manning the gate that they were not allowed to give refunds "by order of the county board..!" Twenty minutes earlier they took our money and handed us a ticket in all probability knowing that there was no referee and the game would likely have to be called off, but they still took our money and then refused to return it...! Can you imagine the uproar if this happened at a championship football match? The Celtic Tiger is well and truly back, the Meath Footballers are in the Super 8s, burn the hurleys. Kildalkey are playing Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Lads, this paranoia with Kildalkey is really grinding. Excuses before a sliotar is thrown in. I've yet to see one piece of evidence that Kildalkey have any influence over the fixture committee. Look at your own club and ask your representatives. Get over it.
