Yes those players really were not appreciated enough in my opinion. Brian Farrell, Mickey Burke and Keogan were not there in 2010. Burke had broken his leg and Farrell was a sub.

Ah come on ! Burke was playing up until his injury And Farrell played plenty that year ! They were part of it

Interesting thread. Says a lot about what we think of today's crop! For what it's worth I'd have Gillespie at midfield and Shane O'Rourke at ff. Think he played some great football there in his earlier years. We've really struggled to find top corner backs in the last decade albeit the game has changed a lot.

I don't mean they weren't there for the year I know they were there I was just talking about the championship. Farrell didn't start any championship match that year and only featured as a sub in the Dublin match. Mickey Burke broke his leg in the Laois replay and missed the Dublin, Louth and Kildare games. Anthony Moyles did start all the championship matches in 2010. Our full forward line in 2010 championship was predominately Cian Ward, Shane O'Rourke and Stephen Bray.

I think if that group of players had Andy McEntee as manager from 2009 onwards for 5/6 years after Colm Coyle they could have won an All Ireland, particularly in 2010 when that was a great chance missed to get to a final! Instability with chopping and changing of managers ruined it for them unfortunately.

All Ireland my a**e !! Andy is totally unproven at this level so to say we should have won an all Ireland is rubbish !! In 2007 we blew it v Cork 2009 hammered by Kerry and 2010 hammered by Kildare !! Get real

Jaysus I'm getting fierce amounts of abuse on Facebook for that team.... mainly from people who can't even read and end up berating me for not including Geraghty, Fay, McDermott etc. Obviously if it was just "pick the best Meath team from 2002 onwards", they would be in there.

What a generalised statement Big Joe .... If Andy had Colm O Rouke , Brian Stafford etc and the crew he could have done something , maybe even the world cup , if , if , if ....... this isn't Carlsberg land ......this is reality , he has who he has , he wasn't in the shout to manage Meath in 2010
The bell has been rung , leave it alone .Saturday will tell us about our capabilities . Donegal are nowhere near the force they were . Our league match showed us that . If we loose then there's a lot of explaining to do ....and a lot of deep soul searching for the boys . if we win , it's a challenge .....

2. Donal Keoghan
3. Kevin Reilly
4. Chris O'Connor
5. Mickey Burke

If Crawford were to be excluded, I'd pick Rooney simply because there's no one else that really stands out (Menton, Ward, Lynch, ....). Certain positions (like 6 and 11) are very dodgy and just hit home how poor we have been in general during this time.
It would be very depressing to compare this team to the team you would pick from 1986 - 2001."
I would have Gillespie at m/f, way ahead of an unproven Rooney

I'll give this a shot

1. Brendan Murphy
2. Donal Keoghan
3. Kevin Reilly
4. Chris O'Connor
5. Mickey Burke
6. Brian Menton
7. Seamus Kenny
8. Conor Gillespie
9. Brian Meade
10. Peadar Byrne
11. Shane O'Rourke
12. Graham Reilly
13. Cian Ward
14. Joe Sheridan
15. Stephen Bray

Similar to others. I excluded Crawford for one reason only that he has a all ire medal. I'm sure with that in his pocket he wont mind me leaving him off. :)

Yeah on second thought, despite Gillespie's injury nightmare he'd probably be ahead of Meade. I simply picked Meade because of his longevity (and to be fair if I remember correctly he was very good in his last couple of years).
