Meath v Louth

Replying To ged:  "Ah I always had it in my head that it was 1976. As Johnny once sang "what's another year". Some Meath supporters writing us off and history suggests that they should. I haven't seen anything in our last 3 games to suggest that we can turn Meath over but the potential is there. I seen it against Tipp in Thurles. For it to happen though in my opinion, we would need all our top players to click on the same day and we're short Maguire and maybe McDonnell.
This rarely happens but lining out against Meath always adds more kick to the lads. I'll be abroad for this one and if Louth do manage to win it will be bitter sweet as it's a day I've dreamt of for decades. The league and OB wins were good for the heart but the championship is a different story."
Ged your right. Johnny Logan's What's another year is def Louth's anthem. 1975 was the last time the Wee County beat Meath in the Championship. Louth are 4/1 to beat the Royals. This was the same price for the Wee men for the Leinster final in 2010. Man for man Louth had better players back then. For the Wee County to win they will need a good start and play outta of their skins. If Andy Mc Donnell does start it will be a Wee boost for Louth. It's gonna be some battle. Already the banter is heating up around the streets of Drawda.

Replying To royaldunne:  "Louth will be tougher than Kildare Imo. Too much been read into the league game where Kildare had stole a march on everyone regarding early season training, by end of league everyone else had caught up and them. If Meath had played Kildare at end of league we would have beat them handily, but them are the breaks."
rd to be honest kildare are a far better side than louth.

To be honest Meath , Louth Kildare and Laois are all fairly even. All a million miles away from the Dubs for a long time now. I have a sneaky feeling Laois will beat Kildare as Kildare seemed to have peaked very early this year. We should beat Louth but they will give us plenty to think about afterwards. anyone sticking some money on Carlow to beat the Dubs ?

Just want a win, margin will have no bearing on rest of season.

if louth are as bad as they were in last years game,i would think we should win easier than we did last year. felt last year we made a meal of it to be honest.

I expect Carlow to beat the Dubs by at least 10!! Seriously though there is nobody within 10 points of Dublin in Leinster (even with wishful thinking). Kildare are much better than Louth and in championship nobody knows how Laois or Westmeath are going to perform on the day, however, I would expect either to beat Louth (who are missing some key players) but there are always going to be some surprises to look forward to.

Based on what I've seen this year, this might be the team.

Meath vs Louth

1. Paddy O'Rourke

2. Donncha Tobin
3. Conor McGill
4. Donal Keoghan

5. Willie Carry / Mickey Burke
6. James McEntee
7. Pauric Harnan

8. Brian Menton
9. James Toher / Ronan Jones

10. Eamon Wallace / Ruarí Ó Coileáin
11. Cillian O'Sullivan
12. Shane McEntee / Alan Forde

13. Brian McMahon / Michael Newman
14. Graham Reilly
15. Donal Lenihan

Based on what you've seen??? That doesn't seem to be much so!!!

James McEntee has played very very little due to injury and the bit he has played was normally as a sub at half forward which is where he should be, not in the backs, so having him at Centre BAck is very strange!!

Alan Forde won't be back until next year so sadly he isn't n option, while Shane McEntee has been wing back all year so I don't see how he can be suggested at wing forward based on what has been seen!!

Also Micky Newman has only played in a handful of challenges and base on last year is not deserving of a starting place, sub of the bench yes, but not starting.

P O Rourke

D Tobin
C McGill
D Keoghan

S McEntee
B Power
P HArnan

B Menton
R Jones/J Toher

C O Sullivan
G Reilly
E Wallace/ R O Coillean

B McMahon
S Tobin
D Lenihan

Based on league, though i could possibly see J McEntee hit wing forward, with Biggy going FF and S Tobin dropping to the Bench

On paper yes I agree. But Louth just want to beat Meath, nothing more, Kildare have bigger fish to fry.

Forde out with cruciate.
Shane mcentee won't be a half forward
Carry won't start
Other then that it's right imo. 13 places guaranteed. 1 wing back and 1 midfielder up for grabs

Maybe our good Wee friend Throw Sherdian might make an appearance at some time like he did in Navan in this years O'Byrne Cup.

Great to see you have built a bridge and are not one bit bitter..very mature just like McEnaney was when he got the ball past him into net and put his fist in his face. Seriously lads...let it go.

Takes 2 to tango. Joe was introduced to the game by the announcer like he was a gladiator in Rome back in the day when people were being slaughtered for real. Big Jim was obviously caught in the emotion and sticking one past big Joe brought it to a head. Louth is as much over it as Meath are. It effected both camps in many ways.

Think there is 3 at most spots up for grabs, one half back one midfielder and maybe one forward, although biggy could probably be ff, it will also leave the dragging him to ground and cynical stuff that he endures during matches against Louth to a minimum, little more fearful of giving tap over frees. That would be my thinking anyway
