Bill was a Garda based in Dublin and at one stage was driver for then Taoiseach John Brunton. With his brothers George, Kevin, Frank and Myles he lined out with the Syddan club. George played senior with Meathwhile Frank was right half back on the Meath which won All-Ireland junior honours in 1952. Bill's nephew Robert Clarke was on the 1999 Syddan intermediate championship winning team while another nephew, Donal Clare played senior championship football for Meath before emigrating to America during the mid 1970's.
