So for all of you brushing this off as an overreaction, here are the stats. Almost 4.7k deaths in the country, families impacted beyond words & traumatized as they had to pick and chose who could attend funerals- hurts & traumas that will never heal. Many long established businesses have been destroyed - some of them having been in families for generations. I haven't seen many members of my family in a year - elderly people prisoners in their homes in their twilight years. Missed cancer diagnosis & delayed health care delivery. As a country we will be paying the multi dimensional psychological & economic costs of this pandemic for years. It is about the spirit of the guidance & that sense of the collective that has been lost and a damned sense of entitlement by a few - whether that be golfing societies in Mayo, vaccine distribution by those who have power over supply or inter county players conducting training sessions. I would suggest that the next time these players look to do their photo opportunities in hospitals, they should not be given access. What they did was a slap in the face to the bereaved & to front line workers & to the sacrifices made by so many.

Should Unvaccinated Fans Be Allowed Into Croke Park? - 7 Like(s)
Over 80% of over 18's fully vaccinated in Ireland & 90% partially vaccinated, which is one of the highest vaccine coverage rates in Europe & demonstrates significant vaccine confidence. Thankfully the few shouting loudly against the vaccine & ultimately against protecting the vulnerable in society, are part of an ignorant minority.

Never understood the hype around him. Poor form coming on the field to join in the Dubs melee.

The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 3 Like(s)

Replying To Saynothing:  "Does anyone really care about international reputation? I would hope they would do good for the whole of the country and not worry about others. they'll not be anyone's puppet, unlike FF and FG. They haven't gone away you know."
That's a very narrow point of view. Reputation is what has attracted investment here in the republic & created hundreds of thousands of jobs, both directly & indirectly & probably why the northern part of the island has not. Yes I know they haven't gone away - this is obvious by many social media posts & a few of the victory speeches by that crowd .... the mask slips very quickly.

The GAA And "Northern Ireland" - 3 Like(s)
There appears to be a simplistic view by many on here that if there is a catholic majority in Northern Ireland, that will lead to independence. That is false. Most middle class catholics thar I know up there would not support such a move & won't not vote in favour of a unification. And as someone living in the border for most of my life, there are many in the republic in border areas who would not be in favour of such a move. The reality is that culturally there is a significant difference between those of us in the republic & those in the north of Ireland, and I am speaking of catholic communities here I am sure that many romantics don't like to hear this but that is the reality.

Replying To Rebel2020:  "4 clear straight red incidents highlighted by the Sunday Game. Zero given. Hard to believe really."
This happened for years. Ref's afraid of upsetting the Dublin / GAA HQ for fear they wouldn't get the big games. A young man went out to represent his county & ended up in hospital after an incident that the ref ignored entirely. Beggars belief.

Congratulations Galway, it was a pretty dire game but the better team definitely won. Not sorry to see the back of the northern supporters & their vuvuzelas - very unsportsmanlike display this year from them all. Their booing & jeering has no place in our game

Replying To AfricanGael:  "Small knew what he was doing alright. Anyone that has played football at any level knows that if a player is running towards you and turns his body to receive a pass that it is totally reckless and dangerous play to even attempt a shoulder in that situation. He knew there was only one way McLoughlin was going to turn his body and that was straight into his shoulder and then he lifts his elbow afterwards for good measure. It was pure filth by Small. We saw the real Dublin on Saturday, great lads when everyone was rolling over for them but dirty losers when it was put up to them. If games had been officiated properly over the last few years they wouldn't have won four in a row never mind six . Great champions me hole ."
The mask certainly slipped. You can put lipstick on a pig. but it's still a pig. We certainly saw that on Saturday.

Donegal V Armagh (Qualifiers) - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Neilmcdonald:  "A lot of people giving Armagh fans grief, but even if there were a few fans doing things deemed inappropriate, it was less than 1%. The other 99% of fans were cheering on a great performance, and one that Donegal couldn't match. There's not much mention of the few Donegal fans who chose to boo the Armagh goalkeeper every time he got the ball, but similarly, those fans are likely a small percent. Great to see crowds back in Clones, and great for Armagh to be back in the mix."
Well then it must be RTÉ's fault. They must have had mics amplifying that 1% to make it sound like it was 99%.

Replying To McGo72:  "Every single week she is a player that is in form. I am not sure how many points and goals she has scored but today she managed to get 3-6 against the Mayo ladies team - that is some going. Do any of the Armagh posters know if she has connections to past and present men's senior players?"
Maybe her Ma/aunt/granny was a successful player??

Can Monaghan GAA Stand By Their Man? - 2 Like(s)
Greetings from Louth. Not sure too many are surprised with the latest Banty antics. Is there much of an appetite in Monaghan to keep this boyo at the helm. Monaghan GAA made great progress over the past 8 or 9 years & have a good degree of respect in GAA circles & as an outsider I see this disappearing under the Banty.

Some of your supporters let the jersey down incredibly as they returned up the M1. Witnessed shocking behavior at the services - mostly young lads on buses but not doing anything for brand Armagh

Replying To Sweetspot:  "Irish Times: 05-04-2021: "Of the 232,164 cases of Covid-19 recorded in the State up to March 24th this year, 262 were as a result of outdoor transmission, representing 0.1 per cent of the total." 1/1000 cases reported in Ireland so far have been linked to outdoor transmission, of which fewer than 135 have been linked to sport. Now, by all means, continue calling those of us who recon there's nothing wrong with young lads around the country having non-contact kick arounds outdoors "murderers, covid-deniers, disrespectful to the frontline" etc.. but you might want to take a look at the suicide numbers around the country, or ask an unemployed young fella how his mental health is before you do. We're the dubs out of order? Yes, They're the standard bearers for the country. Is the severity of their actions being blown way out proportion? Absolutely."
I think you & many others are missing the point. It isn't about risk necessarily. It's about leadership & citizenship - nothing more, nothing less. It's about being part of & representing community - community is what has made the GAA & what has made these players the deserved role models that they are. And they let themselves down, their families & clubs & communities & the national GAA collective down. To some it may be seen as irrelevant & a misdemeanor but to those of us who love & admire this team & the GAA, it is seriously disappointing.
