Born in Seatown Place and reared in Hyde Park, the late Sean Begley, who passed away on January 19th, 2017, was a member of a highly-respected family with proud ties to the Quay area of Dundalk. He had a lifelong love of the GAA and was an ardent supporter of the local Sean O'Mahonys club. It was a particularly proud moment for Sean when the club won the Louth SFC for the first time in 2016 and brought the Joe Ward Cup to Dealgan House Nursing Home.

Sean served the club with tremendous distinction down through the years - as a player, manager and club chairman. Whilst he was at the helm, O'Mahonys won both JFC and IFC honours. The Dundalk man was well known at Croke Park, where at one stage in his life he used to attend matches every Sunday. Along with his friend, Mick Cawley, he attended every All-Ireland final during a period of 30 years. Members of Sean O'Mahonys GFC provided a Guard of Honour as Sean made his final journey and an O'Mahonys flag and jersey were amongst the gifts symbolising his life brought to the altar at his funeral mass.
