"Why Should Anybody Have The God-Given Right To See All Games On Television?" - 9 Like(s)
it's an amateur game being played by amateurs, it is not professional sport but we see fit to allow full time paid officials to make decisions who would not put the decision to go with Sky before congress. Not everyone can afford Sky, and many who cant are GAA volunteers at local level who the Top Brass in the GAA have no regard or respect for. Older people who may not be physically able to attend games but who may have given lots of service to the GAA in the past are being ignored as well. The GAA love to clap themselves on the back about community???....is pay per view TV central to community????.........put this to John Horan and no doubt he will behind the diaspora which seems to be GAA's standard answer to any difficult question these days.

"Why Should Anybody Have The God-Given Right To See All Games On Television?" - 8 Like(s)

Replying To Wally:  "waynoI, Agree 100%. I cant stand this constant lobbying from RTE. Let's be honest this is one broadcaster trying to put pressure on the GAA to abandon a commercial contract with another broadcaster. It's totally despicable. Imagine the out cry if Sky pundits spent half their programme arguing that games on RTE should be shown on Sky instead. Due to let's say their superior production values. So what if people in old folks homes cant watch a couple of games every year. What about league matches that are not on TG4 or like you said what about the dozens of other games involving lower level teams that never get shown. The majority of games are free to air including provincial finals, all ireland semi finals and finals. Plus the GAA don't know which games are going to be critical. I.e. what if the Mayo/Donegal match was a dead rubber and the Tyrone/Dublin match was all to play for. Would RTE's pressure group still have something to say?"
very surprising to hear mickey harte praising sky ................no ulterior motive there??

Ulster Final Donegal V Cavan - 7 Like(s)

Replying To Breffni39:  "On Murphy, honestly I'd say this regardless of the upcoming Ulster final but he gives as good as he gets so very little sympathy from me no matter who Donegal are playing. I may be a bit biased though cos I've had a simmering dislike of him ever since he screamed during the run up for every Cavan free in a minor semi-final(?) in Enniskillen years ago."
have you tried therapy..................

Mayo V Donegal. Winner Takes All - 7 Like(s)

Replying To Gleebo:  "Real championship fayre last night. The quality wasn't stellar, and it was never going to be given the weather conditions, but there was sense of gusto that was missing from Mayo's previous group games. I felt that Mayo's middle eight got on top for most of the game, winning most of the breaking ball and forcing Patton intolerance few uncharacteristic mistakes from his kickouts. Paddy Durcan was outstanding and I thought Lee Keegan was very good, an extremely soft penalty decision aside. Andy Moran was again instrumental to most of Mayo's attacks and shows his value to the team. We are simply not as dangerous when he is out of the team IMO. Even Rob Hennelly, who I am often critical of, had a good game, his kickouts finding his man, one hairy moment in the first half aside. I would still have Clarke return if possible though. Both teams had some horrendous wides and I don't think that either the Dubs or Tyrone will be bricking it at the thought of facing us in the semi-finals. But that is for another day. Donegal have a very exciting young running side for whom the conditions were probably not optimal last night. I think this game was probably a learning curve for them and they will be better for it next season. Having read some of the comments on the Donegal board recently, I do hope that they enjoyed their trip out west (match aside!) and that it was rancour-free for them."
I am a frequent visitor to Mayo as I have family living there, never have an issue with mayo people who I always find welcoming, the entertainment before the game was great, great atmosphere, until the match started. The vitriolic shouts to Michael Murphy and other Donegal players was disgusting, booing of players taking frees also has no place in the GAA. There are a section of idiots who go to Donegal games and call themselves fans who also engage in this, but I never witnessed anything like last night. Not disputing result we were very poor and deserved nothing from the game, nobody likes a sore loser, but a sore winner is worse. The triumphalism at the end and horrible comments that many of us had to endure leaving the ground was disgusting. As a neutral I always liked to see mayo do well, very sour taste in the mouth after yesterday.

Replying To CCFabu:  "total wishy washy from Devenney on there and honestly when Parkinson was talking about what a tough job Paddy Carr had, Devenney actually looked ****** off if you look at the video clip I think Devenney was setting up that the players want Aidan O'Rourke and Paddy Bradley to take things on but Parkinson cut across him. He had a line of players not being happy that the "final word was going to Carr" or something along those lines. He also mentioned these players having experience of "previous regimes" and mentioned McGuinness. Who is left from McGuinness time? It's not hard to figure out how they're trying to frame this Absolute hit job on Paddy Carr in my view and totally unfair on the man"
Devenney has got himself a nice little gig on the punditry circuit and unfortunately wooly and others on otb think they are getting a view of what is happening on the ground in the county. BD is only reflecting his buddies views from the lk area who have skin in this debacle.

Derry v Armagh - 2023 Ulster SFC Final - 5 Like(s)

Replying To artisan:  "I don't see any witch hunt here. A disturbing allegation seems to have been made and its incumbent now on the GAA, particularly Derry, to step in and make clear that the allegations are being treated with the utmost respect and seriousness."
These are serious allegations. Charges were dropped against a well known professional soccer player in England, but his club still aren't playing him. Everyone is looking at Doire GAA to see what are they going to do??

Donegal V Armagh (Qualifiers) - 5 Like(s)
Congratulations to Armagh who thoroughly deserved their win, had the pleasure of speaking to many genuine knowledgeable Armagh fans at the game and wished them well. A pity about the booing of many sections of the Armagh crowd, I've witnessed Donegal people at it too no need for this at our national games. We were the architects of our own downfall, we didn't learn from the Derry game or indeed the 2014 all Ireland final, why do we persist with kamikaze short kick outs, we lost the game in 3 minutes of stupidity before halftime. Modern football is being over thought, when we went man to man 15 on 15 the team with the better footballer's was going to win. Again however too many players on the field went Missing again in a big game, not a fan of Mr Bonner or Mr rochford but I think the player's themselves need to take responsibility for their own performances. McGrath will keep Bonner there as long as he wants. Not sure anyone is really putting their hand up to replace him. On another note as a football fan Rian O'Neill's range of passing is joy to watch, excellent footballer.

Donegal V Cavan. Ulster Final. 2019- - 5 Like(s)

Replying To ctowers:  "Tactics wise very similar but donegal have a set of scoring forwards that Tyrone haven't had in over a decade."
Dubs regularly play 12/13 behind ball and transition well with pace, Donegal after getting rid of Gallagher show they have the players to play that way too. Don't know if we will be good enough to beat dubs, but we are definitely improving.

Donegal V Cavan. Ulster Final. 2019- - 5 Like(s)

Replying To Game2Halves:  "Donegal have reverted to type. Is Jimmy McGuiness back? It's a pity, they tried expansive football last year under Bonner but now obviously winning has outweighed the need to play entertaining football. Awful to watch, using their big physical players to spoil the game, 15 men behind the ball. Back to the norm for Donegal . I think the attacking mark will be introduced next year and hopefully will be end of this sort of playing once and for all. I thought it was just a tactic against Tyrone but obviously this is how they set up. Back to rubbish football ."
Obviously you didn't enjoy your day out in Longford.......

Dublin's Success Not Down To Money - GAA President - 5 Like(s)
good luck to dublin they have the ability to attract a level of funding that other counties can only aspire to, and they are good at getting it, no issue with that. but Horan begins to sound a bit like comical ali when he says money has no bearing on success, of course it does, in any sport it does. Hopefully Dublin won't be the victims of any more mean spirited motions at Congress which try to ensure that Dublin can only play 4 home games out of 6 instead of 5........

hopefully tyrone will man up to dubs in the final & ditch the mickey harte policy of throwing balls on to the field on kickouts and rolling around on the ground like they have been shot when tackled...............I doubt it dubs to win in easiest final of their 4 in a row bid by 8+

Peter mc Kenna provides another garbled response In relation to criticism of the sky deal. I was waiting for him to wheel out the shameful diaspora argument again. Michael duignan correct in what he said , but it appears these full time paid Official's are above any sort of criticism from the ordinary gaa club members.....

How Much Money Does the GAA Have - 4 Like(s)
i am a GAA man to the backbone and have been involved with my local club for over 30 years. There now is vast chasm between croke park/central council/ provincial councils and grass roots. from the Sky deal, the prices in croke park, the prices of match tickets etc. the GAA has become a money making machine and anyone who questions the paid full time officials about anything in relation to costs supporters have to endure we are told pricing is in line with other sports like soccer and rugby, but those are all professional, the GAA is supposed to be amateur. The sky deal was not put to congress because they knew it would not get through, Micheal Duignan was right in what he said on RTE , someone needed to say it. where has the super 8 come from? Where is the GPA in all this? very quiet, the elite players association had their silence bought methinks. we have clubs at local level trying to develop their facilities to the minimum standards fundrasing like mad locally with no help from croke park. the recent plan to search bags going into croke park, why only croke park why not club games too? personally i think it is ridiculous anyway but if it's being done do it at all games or no games. somewhere along the way the ethos of what the organisation was built has been forgotten by the top brass.

Dominated u21 championship and right down to underage level. Winning hurling championships and done it all in the past in the ladies game including 5 ulsters.. And most successful and dominant club in the county providing all games fir our community"
your too modest, not just your community..........players from the communities of Newtowncunningham, Falcarragh, Drumcliffe Rosses Point, Tubbercurry, Westmeath, Derry to name a few..........its been much more than a letterkenny community effort to get eunan's to their lofty position!

It's funny how officious the GAA can be when implementing certain rules, and refuse to intervene where rules have been blatantly broken in a game televised live nationally like last January club final!
