Should James Owens be sanctioned? - 5 Like(s)

Replying To endgame:  "He's in an invidious position when his word decided if Austin Gleeson plays in or misses an All-Ireland Final.I can understand why Owens has acted as he has.The Gaa has to look against at it's disciplinary and suspension policies."
The referee is there to apply the rules, its not his job to decide whether a player plays in AI or not.

Is Now The Time For Brian Cody To Step Down? - 3 Like(s)

Replying To KillingFields:  "Why? All too often a great coach staying on and on can cause major issues when they finally do step down as it is so hard to get out of shadow of such a good coach."
I think it should be that Cody should be left to decide himself when he goes, after what he has done its his decision,I think he will know when its time to go,as for major issues when he goes I dont know what they might be,a new manager will do his best,he will get the backing of the county board and the players,it might take a year or two to get to where KK might be serious contenders but then we will always be up there with the best,no county including KK can be contenders every year no matter who the manager is,thats my opinion anyway, now the championship is over I must say I met many great people from all the counties we played this year,of course there were some whom we had a few words with during matches but always at the end we shook hands and wished each other the best of luck,I have already congratulated Tipp, they were the best team in the final,I know when I say hurling is the best game football men will disagree with me but again its my opinion,to all posters here I hop your club does well in their local championship and maybe I might meet some of the people this yeat again next year,on a final note the man next to me at the final with his 9 year old son flew from London on Sun morning and flew back after the game,he wasnt from either KK or Tipp, just loves Gaelic games, his parents are Irish and he is involved with the GAA in London.

Anti GAA Agenda - 3 Like(s)

Replying To CTGAA10:  "Galwayford, all 4 quarter finals of urc comp were shown on free to air as well as a league of Ireland game..surely the Gaa should be trying to compete with these for live coverage..it's a real pity that hurling coverage seems to be suffering..the 2 football today wouldn't inspire many to watch, apart from Louth supporters next week will many watch Leinster final??ive said already Clare behind paywall for 3rd game next weekend..it's a pity it's happening but I've a feeling it's going to happen a lot more..2 weeks time lim/tipp and Clare/cork are on same weekend as galwaytyrone and Kerry/Mayo in football..we will have 10/12 matches all competing for supporters..also what's story with the Saturday game highlights, thought RTÉ put this forward as really happening but it seems not every weekend.."

Kilkenny V Galway - 3 Like(s)

Replying To StoreysTash:  "Well sure why don't the neutral commentators go out and referee then, if it is so easy? Would those neutral commentators be running from 70 yards down the field, making a decison at pitch level or would they be looking at it on TV? I'm fed up listening to GAA supporters complaining about referees. Every Sunday all you see or hear is the referee dogged us. Kilkenny are the worst supporters in this regard, sorry."
With all due respects the only complaint on this thread from KK is the injury time played, you dont have to be running up and down to the field to lose track of your watch, there were no complaints about the refereeing of the match, your statement that KK are the worse supporters is completely wrong,go back to the start of this thread and read what neutrals said.

Galway Hurling thread - 3 Like(s)

Replying To baire:  "The GAA has lost all credibility when it comes to dangerous play and hits to the head. The shoulder in full force onto Niland's chin today would be a straight red and a suspension even in rugby but the ref didn't even give a yellow card. Unbelievable."
I agree 100%,it was a straight red,in the Waterford Clare match ref was giving yellow cards for a lot less than Niland incident,

Should James Owens be sanctioned? - 3 Like(s)
looking at the photo on the home page how can anyone say the rule about helmet interference is stupid or wrong, look how close Gleesons fingers are to the Cork players eye,he could have done serious damage,a poster said in trying to make out it wasnt too bad by saying the straps were open is also proved wrong,it should always remain a red card offence, the problem now is how can Owens ever send off player for the same offence,

Replying To Oldtourman:  "Yea, but players like, Joe Sammon, Jimmy Duggan, Jimmy Smyth, Gary Kirby, John Mullane, Ken McGrath, Paddy Molloy and Mick Birmingham, among hosts of other great hurlers, never won anything. The fact is if Cork win on Sunday they could dominate hurling for years, something Limerick will certainly not be doing."
I would like to see Pat Horgan win an AI medal,

Limerick V Kilkenny - 3 Like(s)

Replying To welpastit:  "Already said Limerick didn't deserve it since we didn't raise our game to required level. Doesn't change fact that Kilkenny fans disputed EVERY single free. They botched and moaned all day but NOTHING about Hannon been taken out or Nash nearly getting a broken jaw from a well placed elbow. Least sporting fans I have encountered."
I have been going to Croke park for over 50 years now,and Thurles and Nowlan Park and every other park but the behaviour of the LK fans yesterday was the worse I have ever come across,I am not saying our fans are perfect but yesterday the LK fans booed Tj when he was taking his first 2 frees, they booed him when he was getting his man of the match award, there was fans in front of me were on their feet every time KK got a free, now not all LK fans are like that, there were some lovely fans around us,but for you to come on here and say Kk are least sporting fans I say look to your fans whose sportsmanship towards TJ left an awful lot to be desired

Replying To Dubh_linn:  "Or when you score a try."
it was a soft free but to say it was to make a draw is a bit off the mark, now if Cuala wanted a point to draw I would agree with you,it wasnt a certainty a goal was going to be scored from the free,

Advice On Appealing County Board Decision To Leinster Council - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Pikeman96:  "Wow, that's a very heavy-handed approach, haughty attitude, and even spoilt child sounding. Your end 'advice' is basically for the club to say 'if we don't get our way, we're going to take our toys and go play somewhere else'. None of us know the ins and outs of this case, but has it occurred to you that there can actually be good reason for a Co. Board turning down a request for amalgamation? Two examples: 1 - Club A and Club B could be 30 or 40 miles apart, but Club C in the parish beside Club A is also struggling for numbers. An A+C amalgamation would be the 'correct' way of doing it, but A prefers B because B are stronger overall. County Board would be right here to turn down the A+B application and say it should be A+C instead. 2 - Club A could have 14 players in that age group, and Club B could have 12. Obviously neither can field 15 on their own, but Co. Board could feel it would be better for both clubs to try find a few new players or promote a few more from a younger age group. This way there would be 15 playing for each club, and all get to play. An amalgamation would mean that only 15 out of 26 get to play, and 11 are left on the line. I've seen scenarios very similar to both of these occur here in Wexford, where amalgamations at underage level are common, and where some clubs have (in my opinion) 'tried it on'. Am not suggesting in any what that this is the case with the original poster's club, but am very definitely saying that you shouldn't immediately jump to a conclusion of 'let the clubs have whatever they want, or else face legal action' , when you don't know the full circumstances. Finally, as regards your very last piece of 'advice'…..do you really think people over a hurling team in Kilkenny are going to go to maybe 11 or 12 young lads and tell them 'right lads, we're not going to hurl any more at all, we're going to join the soccer or rugby team instead'???!!!"
very good post, must know the reasons for the refusal before giving advice,

Down my way Walsh is pronounced Welsh,if you said Walsh people would think you were a stuck up bollxx, and there are lots of Walshs in my neck of the woods,

Kilkenny and Tipp Give Us A Traditional All Ireland Hurling Final - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Brolly:  "The discussion over this red card (which 99% of he country agree with) is just nauseating at this stage. Kilkenny letting themselves down a bagful. Will be cheering against them from this point on. No-one likes a sore loser!"
you are right Brolly, but go back a few pages and you will find that there are very few KK posters but you will find many posts from the same few posters from other counties, they have said the same thing over and over,so many times now that it seems to me that they just dont like KK,now if thats the way the feel thats fine with me,they are entitled to feel whatever way they want, but when I pointed out the inconsistency of James Owens there wasnt 1 reply, thats what is annoying KK supporters, then we have posts about KKCo board appealing the refs decision,my information is they havent even received the refs report yet,99.9% of KK supporters have have no problem with the result of the game, except the normal feeling when you lose an AI,I have spoken to many of my friends and they all say even had Richie been on for the duration we would not have won,I have been talking to many Tipp friends and told them the same thing, you see Brolly its easy to tar everyone with the same brush when its very unfair to do so,on Brians comments on the incident,I would be very disappointed if he didnt defend Richie,Richie has given many years to Brian and KK hurling, what would any of these posters do if they were in the same position,Henry and Jackie were in the same position, they were out in all weathers training with Richie, they went thru the good and bad times,Richie helped them win AIs,someone said here that there shouldnt be any ex player of the counties involved in final be on the panel,I fully agree,I have been to over 50 Ais,I have been going to hurling matches and have had many an occasion leaving club and county matches to give out about the ref but no matter what I will never criticize any player from any county or their method of play, finally I hope the Dubs do the five in a row.

Can the GAA survive the Rugby onslaught - 2 Like(s)
The GAA will survive despite the best efforts of the media, just look at the attendances at last weekends club matches,Rugby would love to have attendances like those, not just what we saw on tg4 but all the other club matches in the Provinces, also the fact that the juvenile players can go along to club matches and stand on the sideline and see their heros close up,how many youngsters last Sunday want to be a Tony Kelly, the local community will keep the GAA going, and this is despite the fact that hardly a week goes by that the late late or Sat night show doesnt have a rugby player on the show,
