Westmeath made it two wins from two, while Carlow secured their first victory in Division 2A of the Allianz Hurling League this afternoon.

The Lake County were unconvincing 1-20 to 2-11 winners over Kildare at TEG Cusack Park. Niall Mitchell scored an early goal for the hosts, but a plucky Kildare side hit back with a goal from Martin Fitzgerald to trail by four points, 1-6 to 1-10, at the interval.

Another major from sub Shane Ryan reduced the deficit to the minimum, 2-8 to 1-12, nine minutes into the second half, but Westmeath replied with five unanswered points from Robbie Greville, Killian Doyle, Ciaran Doyle, Allan Devine and Niall O'Brien to put daylight between the teams once more.

In Tralee, Carlow bounced back from their opening round loss to the Lake County to record a fine 1-18 to 1-11 victory over Kerry.

A Brandon Barrett goal helped the home side to a 1-8 to 0-9 interval lead, but Colm Bonnar's men took control in the second half and made sure of victory when Chris Nolan netted with five minutes to go. Kerry finished with 14 men after James O'Connor was dismissed late on.
